Netflix is developing a new series based on the popular board game Catan. They’re partnering with Asmodee to bring the game to life on screen, with plans for a full-fledged franchise. Catan involves players building settlements, forming alliances, and competing for limited resources in a dynamic island setting, all while dealing with the challenges of roaming bandits.
Okay, so Netflix just dropped some seriously cool news! They’re making shows and movies based on Catan! I can’t believe it – this is the first time anyone’s ever tried to adapt that world to the screen. They haven’t said exactly what they’re planning yet – it could be full-on movies, TV series, or even some fun game shows. I’m super excited to see what they come up with!
The game will be made with contributions from several experts, including Darren Kyman of Asmodee, Pete Fenlon from Catan Studio, Klaus Teuber’s sons Guido and Benjamin, and Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment.
Netflix is heavily investing in adapting Catan into a show, hoping to demonstrate the exciting possibilities of the game’s world. They plan to immerse viewers in the game and highlight the surprisingly crucial role of resource trading – like sheep – within its strategic gameplay.
Catan is famous for its competitive strategy and lively negotiation, often leading to exciting moments. We believed partnering with Asmodee would be a huge win, much like building a key settlement in the game. So, we brought together all of Netflix – our shows, movies, animation, and games – to demonstrate the incredible potential when we collaborate. Longtime Catan players will be thrilled, and a new generation of fans will discover the importance of a good sheep trade!
Netflix has experience with gaming content. They’ve already had success adapting games into shows, most notably with the popular series Arcane. Other examples of their game-based projects include Castlevania, Exploding Kittens, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
