Carnival Cruise Line teamed up with Van Leeuwen Ice Cream to make a truly unusual treat: sunscreen-flavored ice cream. Surprisingly, early tasters are saying it actually tastes great!
Carnival created a small batch of collectible glasses as part of a campaign called “End-of-Summer Scaries” to mark the end of the summer season.
Despite the name, this product isn’t a sunscreen. It’s made with a blend of cream, coconut cream, cocoa butter, vanilla, and sea salt to evoke the familiar scents and flavors of summertime.
Very few bottles of this beer were made, and Carnival Cruise Line isn’t planning to sell it right away. However, they suggested that if there’s a lot of online interest, they might release a limited quantity for the public to buy.
Sunscreen-flavored ice cream actually tastes good?
Initial responses have been very good. Houston Hotspots called the flavor “summer in ice cream form,” and liked how well the unusual combination worked together.
We love trying new and exciting foods, and this was definitely a unique experience! Surprisingly, it tastes just like summer – like a really delicious ice cream. It sounds strange, but they somehow managed to make something that tastes like sunscreen actually taste *good*, we told each other.

Unique and unusual flavors are trending in 2025. For example, the parenting brand Frida recently teamed up with OddFellows to create an ice cream flavored with breast milk.
KFC recently joined the trend of unusual frozen treats by creating “Gravy Gelato,” a savory ice cream made from their signature gravy.
Currently, sunscreen ice cream is only available on cruises, but it could become more widely available soon.
