After over ten years, the chaotic racing game Carmageddon is back with a new installment called Carmageddon: Rogue Shift. Created by the team at 34BigThings, known for Redout, this new version puts you in the driver’s seat as an anonymous racer navigating a world devastated by war, natural disasters, and a zombie outbreak caused by powerful corporations.
In Rogue Shift, the world is overrun by zombies—here they’re called the Wasted—and players compete in dangerous races to gain power and try to escape Earth on a rocket. While it might sound similar to the game Carmageddon, Rogue Shift adds a roguelite twist. You’ll navigate randomly created tracks, complete challenges to earn upgrades, and even after a crash, permanent bonuses you unlock with in-game currency will help you on your next attempt.
Every journey you take will need careful planning, because your vehicle will break down and need repairs. The game gets harder as you progress, but combining the right vehicles, upgrades, and weapons will let you create a powerful machine to fight off enemies or challenge other drivers on the road.
According to 34BigThings, the game features 13 different weapon types and more than 80 perks. Each of the 15 vehicles you can unlock handles uniquely, with characteristics affected by things like its engine type, weight, balance, suspension, and tire grip.
With Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, we wanted to create a game that’s truly addictive and keeps players engaged. As Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, our head of design, explained, we aimed to recapture that intense, focused feeling – that ‘flow state’ – players loved in the original Carmageddon and other classic combat racing games.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift will launch in early 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
