Captain Marvel’s Other Half is Back – And She is Hotter Than Ever

Carol Danvers is facing a return of a past version of herself, and this time, the situation could be far more dangerous than anyone predicted.

A preview of the new Marvel comic *Binary* #1 (from Stephanie Phillips, Giada Belviso, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Travis Lanham) introduces a group of rebels in Massachusetts – now part of the dangerous Revelation Territories – as they plan an attack. Their attempt to destroy a building and its occupants is successful in creating a fire, but ultimately fails to significantly harm their target. The rebels were actually aiming for Carol Danvers, and with their plan foiled, they will now face the powerful wrath of Binary, who is empowered by the Phoenix Force.

Carol Danvers, known for years as Ms. Marvel and fighting with teams like the Avengers and X-Men, experienced a life-changing transformation in 1982. In Uncanny X-Men #164, by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, she became Binary. This change unlocked the full extent of her powers, turning her into a powerful cosmic being. Later, Carol abandoned her Binary identity due to a complicated storyline.

As a longtime Captain Marvel fan, I was so excited to see a new Binary appear in the comics! It happened in *Captain Marvel* #34 back in 2021. This Binary wasn’t a person, but an energy copy of Carol created when she was trapped by Vox Supreme. She basically made a living duplicate of herself to break out! While Carol quickly reabsorbed her, it wasn’t the last we saw of her. Sadly, this new Binary had a really short run, being defeated by the Brood Empress less than two years after she first showed up. It was heartbreaking to see her go so quickly!

Marvel’s *Age of Revelation* takes place ten years in the future, presenting a unique take on the Marvel Universe – one that feels surprisingly familiar. According to Marvel Comics’ Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, this isn’t an alternate reality, but a genuine possible future. He explains that characters in the present day acknowledge this timeline as real, meaning events within *Age of Revelation* will have echoes in the main Marvel Universe.

Binary #1 goes on sale on October 8 from Marvel Comics.
