Captain America Star Admits ‘You Don’t Realize’ How Good You Have It At Marvel Until It’s Over

After years of successful movies and Disney+ shows, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now a smoothly running operation. Many actors have joined and left over time, including Dominic Cooper, who first appeared as a young Howard Stark in *Captain America: The First Avenger*. He recently shared that he didn’t realize how great his time with Marvel was until he stopped receiving offers for roles.

Even though future Marvel films will include many characters, it doesn’t look like Dominic Cooper will be returning as Howard Stark in live-action movies anytime soon. The actor, known for his role in *Preacher*, recently shared his thoughts on his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Comic Book Movie, saying:

Looking back on my time playing Captain America and being part of the Marvel Universe, it’s amazing to realize how special it was. I especially cherish the chance I had to meet and work with Stan Lee – doing a scene with him and learning he actually wrote the comics was incredible! Now, I truly appreciate everything about that experience, and I really hope I get to play Captain America again because it was such a fun role.

It feels surreal looking back! The first *Captain America* movie came out way back in 2011, early in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s run. Actor Cooper was thrilled to play Howard Stark at the time, but no one could have predicted how popular the franchise would become. He definitely cherishes the memories, especially those he shared with the late, great Stan Lee.

Disney+ offers a streaming home for Marvel Cinematic Universe content, including appearances by Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark. You can subscribe with ads for $9.99 a month (increasing to $11.99 on October 21, 2025), go ad-free for $15.99 a month (increasing to $18.99 on October 21, 2025), or save 16% by paying $159.99 for a full year. Dominic Cooper has played Howard Stark, Tony Stark’s father, several times now, both in the live-action series *Agent Carter* and by voicing the character in two episodes of *What If…?*. Despite these appearances, he’s still eager to return to the role and play Howard Stark again.

Later in the interview, he expressed his desire to reprise his role as Howard Stark. He compared his experience within the Marvel Cinematic Universe to his new show, *The Last Frontier*, which is available on Apple TV+.

I certainly hope so – he’s a truly wonderful character and a lot of fun. Though he’s a product of his time, I’m really hoping this continues. It’s special, like seeing something increasingly rare. I even stopped to admire the actual plane used in filming and realized how fortunate we are to be witnessing this – experiences like this don’t happen often anymore. This show is fantastic.

As a huge Marvel fan, I always knew nobody *really* stays gone, and seeing Robert Cooper voice different versions of Tony Stark in *What If…?* definitely proved it! Now that the multiverse is open, anything feels possible. I’m really hoping Dominic Cooper gets another shot at playing a live-action Tony Stark like he wants – it would be amazing to see!

The next Marvel Cinematic Universe film, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, is scheduled to release in theaters on July 24th, 2026. It remains to be seen if Dominic Cooper will reprise his role as Iron Man’s father in the movie.
