Captain America: Brave New World Drops Major Clue for Avengers: Doomsday!

Captain America: Brave New World concludes with a short, crucial scene after the credits which hints at upcoming films, specifically Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

The final stretch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Storyline is approaching. Following “Brave New World”, there will be just five films left on the schedule: “Thunderbolts”, “Fantastic Four”, “Doomsday”, “Spider-Man 4”, and “Secret Wars”.

In contrast to the Infinity Saga, where each film progressively built towards Thanos and his cosmos-destroying gauntlet, this phase’s main threat hasn’t been clearly defined yet. Although we know Robert Downey Jr will reprise his role as Doctor Doom, the narrative setup for the upcoming Avengers films has been relatively vague beyond references to incursions and Kang (a villain who was previously hinted at but not fully introduced).

So far… but let’s keep expectations in check. The post-credit scene of Captain America: Brave New World subtly hints at Doomsday and Secret Wars, but the clues are not yet clear cut.

How many post-credits scenes in Captain America: Brave New World?

There is just one post-credits scene in Captain America: Brave New World.

Different from many Marvel films, this latest one does not include a scene during the mid-credits. This means that if you find yourself needing to use the restroom while watching, you’ll only have to wait a bit longer to catch the conclusion at the very end of the credits.

Brave New World post-credits scene explained

After the end of the movie, Sam makes a trip to Samuel Sterns, also known as The Leader, who’s locked up at his prison cell on The Raft. This is following the events of the Red Hulk incident, where they are both confined along with Thaddeus Ross.

He appears quite unfazed by his incarceration; this is likely because he spent 16 years under the president’s protection. Nevertheless, he delivers a chilling message of foreboding to Sam regarding what’s to come.

Sam indicates that their humor isn’t aligned, but Stern responds, “Don’t we inhabit the same world, though? A world you’d give your life for. I’ve glimpsed its future in the possibilities, as clear as broad daylight.

Everyone who’s safeguarding our world, you believe yourselves to be unique in this role? You consider this universe as the only one that needs defending? Wait until you must shield this realm… from the other realms.

How it sets up Avengers: Doomsday

According to Stern, Sam must safeguard Earth as it faces threats from other dimensions, likely referring to Doctor Doom and invasions from various realms populated by both heroes and villains.

It remains uncertain as to when or if Doom will make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially through The Fantastic Four: First Steps. A popular speculation is that the team will suffer a defeat, forcing them to escape into the main MCU timeline following Galactus consuming their world. This loss could fuel Doom’s resentment towards them.

There’s a chance he could be referring to the Beyonders, powerful beings responsible for maintaining the multiverse in Marvel comics. Although it’s somewhat unclear (some speculate it was initially intended as a reference to the Council of Kangs), with Doomsday scheduled for 2026, this seems like the most likely link.
