Recently, there has been an announcement about Battlefield Labs, offering a sneak peek at the upcoming game in the series and encouraging us to participate in pre-alpha playtesting. Despite this exciting news, longtime enthusiasts are still haunted by the dissatisfaction surrounding Battlefield 2024, which was released three years ago. The game’s Steam reviews continue to show a mixed response, with many players criticizing it for lacking content and deviating from the core gameplay that they cherished.
What we know about the upcoming game
Here’s a brief summary of the latest updates about the upcoming game, which is still colloquially known as Battlefield ‘7’:
1. The game will be set in the near future, featuring an expansive open-world environment with destructible environments and dynamic weather systems.
2. Players can expect a wide variety of vehicles, including airplanes, helicopters, boats, and ground vehicles like tanks and ATVs.
3. The game is expected to feature a single-player campaign that focuses on a military specialist named Rhys Mitchell, who must navigate a complex series of missions to stop a rogue faction known as the Blacklist.
4. In addition to the single-player mode, Battlefield ‘7 will offer a robust multiplayer experience with up to 128 players in a match, featuring various game modes such as Conquest, Breakthrough, and Team Deathmatch.
5. The game will also feature a class system that allows players to customize their characters with different weapon loadouts, equipment, and abilities based on the role they choose to play.
6. Battlefield ‘7 is expected to release in October 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and next-gen consoles (PS5 and Series X/S).
- Following the disappointment of its predecessor, BF7 is bringing back a story campaign. Players can also look forward to a ‘realistic and exciting environment destruction system’ to add to the chaos, in classic modes like Rush and Breakthrough, along with some fresh new gameplay ideas.
- The game is being developed by a large team spread across four major EA studios all now working together as Battlefield Studios, including franchise creator DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion (latest Need for Speed games, Burnout series), and Motive (Dead Space Remake, Star Wars Squadrons).
- According to recent news, 98% of developers working on Battlefield 7 weren’t involved in previous series installments.
- In a five-minute video, we got just about 10 seconds of actual gameplay.
New hope or same old disappointment?
In essence, whereas certain YouTubers are stoking excitement, Battlefield gamers tend to adopt a more circumspect stance. At present, people have become quite skeptical about game trailers and require unedited gameplay footage to be convinced. They remain cautious because clips taken out of context can sometimes be misleading, as was the case with BF2042, which showcased some thrilling moments but failed to address the broader mechanics.
In comparison to Battlefield 5, Battlefield 2042 seemed somewhat outdated, featuring simple animations and less detailed maps. It appeared to be light on content, and many of its promised features failed to materialize. Granted, Battlefield 5 did encounter some issues at launch, but it was nevertheless enjoyable – if one could avoid the nuisance of cheaters spoiling the fun.
There’s a lingering sense of doubt and disappointment from past games among many players. They are questioning if Battlefield 7 will live up to their expectations. We’re not asking for anything revolutionary – just improved graphics, smoother gameplay, and the same level of immersion as Battlefield 1. That’s all we need.
At the end of the day, Battlefield veterans are saying one thing: No preorders this time.
