Cameron Diaz Was Shocked Netflix Had a Hotline to Report Set Misconduct: ‘Never in My Career Had HR Come to Talk About What’s Inappropriate Behavior’

Recently, Cameron Diaz made an appearance on the “SkipIntro” podcast hosted by Netflix, where she shared her surprise at how much film sets have transformed during her 11-year break from acting. The Netflix original movie titled “Back in Action” was released last month and represents Diaz’s comeback to acting since the 2014 adaptation of “Annie.

Diaz noted a significant shift in the industry, stating, ‘The #MeToo movement has truly redefined everything.’ The atmosphere on set is noticeably altered. Earlier, it wasn’t just the top brass who exhibited inappropriate behavior; there was always that one individual, whom you would dread seeing again. The subtle and not-so-subtle improprieties were rampant, which often had to be endured. As women, we found ourselves laughing off such situations or setting boundaries with certain individuals, while ignoring others.

Diaz stated that things have shifted dramatically. He’s never experienced Human Resources discussing appropriate and inappropriate conduct prior to a production, as they are doing now. Plus, Netflix offers a hotline for reporting any concerns anonymously – an incredible level of safety and security that he hasn’t felt before on set, especially for women, with this particular film.

At Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit the previous year, Diaz reaffirmed her choice to step away from acting for more than ten years.

At that moment, it seemed essential for me,” Diaz expressed, “as if it was a necessary step to regain control of my life. Frankly, nothing else mattered much to me.

Diaz emphasized that no one else’s opinions, achievements, proposals, or anything else could sway her from prioritizing self-care and crafting the life she truly desired. Essentially, it boils down to this: What ignites your passion? For me, it was creating my family.

After making her comeback to acting, many enthusiasts are curious as to whether Diaz will continue securing roles or perhaps take another break for a ten-year span again.

Diaz recently told Empire magazine that he’s undecided about his perspective on it. It’s tricky to put it into words, but here goes: I can always choose not to do a movie again, or I might decide to. At the end of the day, I don’t feel compelled to label things. Instead, I keep an open mind and go with whatever feels right for me and my family at any given time.

“Back in Action” is now available to stream on Netflix.
