Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 - Developers Discuss the Future of Omnimovement in COD Games

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours logged in the Call of Duty universe, I must say that the Omnimovement system in Black Ops 6 has been a breath of fresh air. It’s not every day that a new movement mechanic comes along and truly shakes things up, but this one does just that.

Initially, when Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was unveiled, one of the features that really grabbed attention was the novel movement system named Omnimovement. Given that movement is key to action First-Person Shooter (FPS) games, this became a significant factor boosting the game’s appeal.

Since the release of the game and players getting accustomed to Omnimovement, the creators have given us a peek at whether this characteristic will continue to be a mainstay in upcoming Call of Duty series.

During an interview with Dexerto, the creator of Black Ops 6, Miles Leslie, shared insights about the potential persistence of the Omnimovement feature in future games. Although he didn’t give a definite yes or no, his remarks indicated a positive outlook on its inclusion.

Leslie stated, “Regarding Treyarch and Black Ops, we’ve always been enthusiastic advocates for Omnimovement and have strongly believed in its capabilities since the initial stages. It’s awe-inspiring to witness players showcasing extraordinary plays with Omnimovement on a daily basis, and we’re confident that we haven’t yet reached the limits of its potential.

This hints that Treyarch may consider expanding on the Omnimovement concept, given its compatibility with their future plans for Call of Duty games. However, whether or not it will appear depends significantly on the theme of the next game. If the next title is a futuristic one like Advanced Warfare, Omnimovement might take a backseat, but there are whispers that it could still make an appearance (as suggested in the tweet below).

Word on the street suggests that Infinity Ward is working on a new Call of Duty game, rumored to be another installment in the Modern Warfare series. It’s speculated to hit shelves in 2026. The upcoming title is said to incorporate omnimovement and wall-running mechanics. Additionally, multiplayer may include remastered maps from Modern Warfare 3 (2011) as well as new maps. At the moment, the verdict is still undecided, but I’ve developed a fondness for Omnimovement in Black Ops 6. Grasping its intricacies for advanced maneuvers has been quite an enjoyable test, and if it returns in the next Call of Duty, I have no doubt that numerous players, including myself, will find themselves feeling comfortable and familiar with it.
