I’ve always been a huge Gary Oldman fan – he’s incredible in everything! But even the best actors have movies that don’t quite hit the mark, right? Apparently, he had a really good reason for being in one of his less-loved films, and it wasn’t because he was passionate about the project itself.
Everyone struggles with money sometimes, and Anthony Hopkins once found himself in that position. Desperate for work, he accepted a role in the film *Tiptoes* to help improve his financial situation. He was going through a tough time and needed the job.
Having fallen on hard times and needing to cover his expenses, Oldman jumped at the chance to play Matthew McConaughey’s brother, explaining he was simply doing what he had to do.
This was by far the most challenging role of Gary Oldman’s career. He played Matthew McConaughey’s twin brother, who also had dwarfism. To create the effect, Oldman walked on his knees with special shoes and filmmakers used camera angles to make it appear realistic.
Okay, so things were pretty rough for a while. I was going through a divorce and got totally screwed over by a contractor – seriously, a mess. I ended up in LA, forty-two years old, a single dad, and completely broke. It’s kind of ironic, actually, because I was living in a rental right under the Hollywood sign! We literally had nothing, no furniture at all. Thank goodness for Ikea, honestly, they saved us!
I was going through a difficult period and really needed money to cover my bills. I felt like I had to do whatever it took to get by.
Look, Gary Oldman’s said it himself – his role in *Tiptoes* wasn’t exactly a career highlight. But honestly, he was in a tough spot back then and needed the work to pay the bills. Thankfully, he’s doing great now and can pick projects he actually enjoys. He’s even admitted he’d never take a role like that one again – you know, the kind you do just to survive. It’s cool to see him in a place where he can focus on the art and not just the paycheck.
And it was a crazy idea. But, would I do it now? No.
Okay, so I recently checked out this movie called *Tiptoes*, and it’s a pretty strange one. It’s basically about this complicated love thing between a woman and two brothers. The cast is awesome though – Gary Oldman, Matthew McConaughey, and Kate Beckinsale all star in it. Definitely a bit different!
