After hearing from players who participated in the Marathon Server Slam test, Bungie has confirmed they are continuing to prioritize improvements to the game’s user interface.
Okay, so the test period for this new extraction shooter is almost over, and Bungie just gave us an update on X (formerly Twitter). They talked about all the bugs they’ve fixed, what they’re still working on, and – thankfully – they said they’re really listening to what we’ve been saying about the menus and how things look. It’s good to know they’re paying attention to our feedback!
Players consistently mentioned the user interface as a problem during testing. Many found the menus and icons hard to read and use.
Bungie says Marathon UI will continue evolving after launch
Bungie announced on February 28th that they’re still gathering player feedback on the game’s interface and will continue to improve it even after the game launches.
Thanks for all your feedback on Marathon’s user interface! We’re still collecting and reviewing everything you’re sharing, so please keep the comments coming. For more discussion, please join us on our official Discord server. We’re planning to continue improving the UI after launch and will share updates on timelines as soon as we have them.
The studio said it plans to improve the UI post-launch.During the recent Server Slam, many players have discussed how easy it is to read the game’s menus and understand the icons. A common issue is that players need to hover over icons to see what items do, because the effects aren’t clearly displayed in the initial information shown.
Seriously, it’s frustrating having to mouse over every piece of gear just to figure out what it does. I saw a post on the Marathon subreddit where someone was complaining about this too – they found two shields that looked identical, but one was way better! It’s a simple thing, but it really breaks the immersion when you have to do that much checking.
One user suggested a workaround: changing how items are displayed to show their value instead of just their type. This is because items with higher values usually have better qualities.
Yesterday, I discovered you can change how items are displayed – you can show either the item’s type or its value as the icon. Items with more features were worth a little bit more.
During the test, Bungie addressed several problems, including fixing issues with voice chat and a lag bug on PCs caused by mouse movements. They also made beginner areas more lively by increasing the number of players who can enter, leading to more player-versus-player combat.
Marathon’s Server Slam ends on March 2, with full release for consoles and PC arriving on March 5.
