Brandon Sanderson Teases Potential “AAA” Mistborn Video Game

While a Mistborn video game isn’t happening immediately, author Brandon Sanderson has revealed he’s been talking to several major game developers about the possibility. If everything works out, fans can expect it to be quite a while before they can explore the world of Luthadel virtually.

Okay, so it sounds like a Mistborn game might actually happen! Brandon Sanderson says he’s finally at a point where he can seriously start working on it, and we’re at the very beginning stages – Step One, as he puts it – but that’s still super exciting. He’s been talking to some major companies about it, ones he really respects, which is cool. Plus, he’s making sure he keeps control over how his Mistborn world gets turned into a video game, which is smart. Fingers crossed this all pans out!

These conversations are just beginning. Author Brandon Sanderson explained that the rights to adapt his books were unavailable for about six or seven years, so he’s only recently been able to explore potential options. He’s now asking any studios or publishers interested in developing a Mistborn or Stormlight Archive project to contact his agents.

Mistborn is a series by Brandon Sanderson that takes place within his larger Cosmere universe, which also includes the popular Stormlight Archive. Sanderson’s work has inspired several tabletop games lately, ranging from role-playing games set in the Cosmere to a card game specifically based on Mistborn.

So, Brandon Sanderson actually has some hands-on experience with game development! He helped build the world and characters for this new tactics game called Moonbreaker, which is really cool. And it’s not like Mistborn is a stranger to gaming, either. There was a game in the works a while back called ‘Mistborn: Birthright,’ but sadly it got canceled. But get this – Kelsier, one of my favorite characters, was actually a playable skin in Fortnite! That happened because Sanderson has a good relationship with the folks over at Epic Games.
