The company Brainstorm Media has obtained the rights for screenings in North America of the dark comedy “Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer,” written by Tolga Karaçelik. This film, which features Steve Buscemi and won an Audience Award at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, will hit theaters on April 4, 2025, followed by a VOD release on April 11, 2025, with plans to expand its presence in cinemas.
The movie centers around a troubled author going through a divorce. He forms an unlikely friendship with a former serial killer, who doubles as his marriage advisor during the day and provides insights for his novel’s murder scenes at night. This film is Karaçelik’s first directorial and screenwriting attempt in English. Besides Buscemi, it features John Magaro from “Past Lives” and Britt Lower known for “Severance.
According to Michelle Shwarzstein, CEO of Brainstorm Media, Tolga Karacelik has created a movie filled with unexpected plots and turns, along with an impressive ensemble cast, ensuring viewers will be gripped from start to finish.
Karaçelik shared that he creates movies he enjoys watching, and this particular film is among them. He started with a basic concept in 2015, which eventually blossomed into something more substantial. Along the way, he also developed personally and professionally. Collaborating with everyone on the team was delightful, but working alongside John, Britt, and Steve was exceptionally rewarding.
The movie is produced by a team consisting of Karaçelik, Buscemi, Scott Aharoni, Sinan Eczacibasi, Alihan Yalcindag, Wren Arthur, Alex Peace Power, and Mustafa Kaymak.
As a movie connoisseur, I’m delighted to inform you that the stellar production team behind this film includes Magaro, Lower, Can Gürsoy, Aykut Sanver, Daniel John Goldberg, Kanat Dogramaci, Eppie Özen, Irmak Pakdemir, Ali Yürürer, Aret Taşciyan, Lauren Chen, Jon Wroblewski, Christian Sosa, Ahmet Kenan Bilgiç, Tara Khorti, Julien Levesque, Özge Bulut Marasli, and Peter Veverka. Each of these individuals has played a crucial role in the creation and execution of this cinematic masterpiece.
In this arrangement, Alex Peters from Brainstorm Media acted as the representative for the filmmakers during negotiations with UTA Independent Film Group. Mimi Steinbauer’s company, Radiant Films International, is taking charge of international distribution for “Psycho Therapy.” They plan to debut the movie at EFM, where Steinbauer and Karis Aldridge, head of sales at Radiant, will showcase it to prospective distributors. A screening of the film will take place in Berlin as part of their presentation.
