As the evening darkens, it’s time for us to embark on an exciting journey at CinemaCon! Director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer graced the stage at Caesars Palace, eagerly discussing their forthcoming racing drama “F1,” featuring the talented Brad Pitt.
According to Kosinski and Bruckheimer, they confidently declared this upcoming film will be the standout cinema experience of the summer. Being experienced in creating blockbusters, as they were instrumental in the 2022 box office hit “Top Gun: Maverick” alongside Tom Cruise, which grossed a staggering $1.5 billion worldwide, they expressed their readiness to recreate that success. In essence, they stated they’re prepared to fill your theaters once more with another blockbuster.
To showcase their faith in the high-priced action blockbuster, Kosinski and Bruckheimer revealed the exhilarating first ten minutes of the movie. In “F1,” Pitt (who was absent at CinemaCon) portrays a middle-aged Formula One racer who relishes pushing his vehicles, as well as his rivals, to their extremes. The film begins at the esteemed Daytona race where Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, executes one risky move after another in an attempt to preserve his lead. He is a solitary individual who lives in a van and continues to desire a secluded lifestyle even after winning Daytona. However, this solitude is disrupted when Javier Bardem’s sophisticated team owner re-enters his life, requiring a thrill-seeker to help transform his struggling team into a contender.
“New day, new challenge,” Pitt’s character says in the sneak peek scene.
The exhilarating race footage evokes the same sense of being on location, similar to the intense aerial scenes in “Top Gun: Maverick,” which left viewers breathless. Notably, this kind of setting is familiar to Bruckheimer, given his role as producer for the 1990 film “Days of Thunder,” where Cruise played a high-speed racer.
Apple has chosen to support a large-scale film production that Warner Bros. will release in cinemas. This represents a significant risk for Apple, as they are newcomers to the movie industry without any profitable films under their belt thus far. The worldwide fame of Formula One is expected to boost the film’s commercial potential, given that Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time champion in the sport, serves as one of its producers. Notably, several Formula One drivers, including Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, George Russell, and Charles Leclerc, will make appearances in the movie in their real personas. Brad Pitt shares the screen with Damson Idris, who portrays a promising new driver, as well as Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia.
Indeed, Pitt is indeed shown speeding, at rates over 180 mph, throughout the movie. For this high-octane action, Pitt, Kosinski, and Bruckheimer traversed the Formula 1 worldwide track, starting from Silverstone, passing through Las Vegas, and concluding in Abu Dhabi for filming purposes (which accounts for the film’s reported $300 million budget).
We filmed this movie during actual Grand Prix races, spanning various locations worldwide, such as Abu Dhabi, Silverstone, and even Las Vegas Strip,” Bruckheimer stated. Regarding the end product, “This film offers everything that viewers crave: action, romance, and comedy,” Kosinski assured.
