Bowen Yang announced that his last episode as a cast member on Saturday Night Live will be December 20th. He shared a goodbye message on Instagram the morning of his final show, expressing his love for the people he worked with. Yang explained that being at SNL during a difficult time in the world taught him the importance of showing up when surrounded by good people. The news followed a report from the previous day, but he hadn’t commented publicly until now. Ariana Grande hosting and Cher performing will make for a great final show for Yang. He finished by thanking Lorne Michaels for the opportunity and for fostering a supportive and enjoyable work environment, saying he felt lucky to be a part of it.
Bowen Yang spent seven and a half seasons on Saturday Night Live, earning four Emmy nominations and becoming a popular figure for Halloween costumes – fans even dressed up as the Titanic iceberg! He joined the show in 2018 as a writer and quickly became a performer. Since then, he’s also appeared in films like the Wicked movies. Though he hasn’t announced his future plans, Yang continues to host the podcast Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers. For fans who miss seeing him on SNL, they can enjoy his work through the podcast instead.
