Borderlands 4 Stuttering On PC? Gearbox Has An Unusual Step To Fix Stability Issues

A new update for Borderlands 4 was released on September 25th, focusing on improving the game’s stability and performance. While the update doesn’t resolve all issues, the developers at Gearbox have shared some tips to help players deal with any remaining problems.

The game developer acknowledges that some players are experiencing stuttering after the latest update, which is causing performance problems. This is happening because the game is compiling shaders while you play, but it should resolve itself after about 15 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay. This is a bit strange, as shader compilation usually happens before you start playing to prevent these kinds of interruptions. If the stuttering continues after 15 minutes, the developer recommends clearing your shader cache – the process for doing this varies depending on your graphics card.

Problems with the development of Borderlands 4 led Gearbox head Randy Pitchford to be very active online, but recently he’s been focusing his posts on the new Now You See Me sequel. Pitchford worked on the magical aspects of the film and states he had a larger role in its creation than he did with the Borderlands movie.

The latest Borderlands 4 update, released on September 25th, now includes a field of view (FOV) slider for console players – a popular request from the community. Keep in mind that adjusting the FOV can sometimes impact game performance. The update also tweaked the balance of different playable characters, known as Vault Hunters, and more changes for them are planned in an update coming next week.

More news on Borderlands 4: the Switch 2 version has been postponed with all digital pre-orders receiving refunds. Gearbox made this decision to allow for further development and to ensure cross-save functionality is included.
