As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia tinged with anticipation when it comes to Borderlands 4. Having grown up on the wacky humor and chaotic world of the Borderlands franchise, I’ve developed a soft spot for its quirky charm. The news that the narrative director is trying to tone down toilet humor might be a relief to some, but as someone who’s spent countless hours laughing at those skibidi jokes, it leaves me a little… well, constipated.
In Borderlands 4, it’s possible that there could be toilets, but the game’s narrative director dislikes the notion of this sparking jokes about skibidi. This is an effort to reduce the excessive amount of bathroom humor, as stated by Sam Winkler.
Eurogamer reported that the narrative director for Borderlands 4, Winkler, discussed the game’s tone in an interview on X. In response to a question about his criticism of Borderlands 3’s bathroom humor, Winkler hinted at a potential shift by saying, “I won’t promise there will be no toilets, but if ‘skibidi’ appears in the game while I’m in charge, I might shed some actual tears.” When Paul Tassi of Forbes suggested a weapon named Hawk 2A, another developer asked if it was real, to which Winkler playfully replied, “I’d consider putting my hand down the sink grinder.
“I won’t claim there are no toilets, but if ‘skibidi’ appears in the game while I’m in charge, I’ll shed genuine tears. Paul Tassi joked about a gun named Hawk 2A, and someone asked if it was true, and I felt like putting my hand into a garbage disposal.
