Borderlands 4 was initially planned for the Nintendo Switch 2, but development has now been put on hold, making its release on that console seem doubtful.
Take-Two has stopped actively working on the Switch 2 version of the game, removing it from their planned release list and leaving its future uncertain.
Borderlands 4 came out in September 2025, and it’s the first major installment in the series since 2019. Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the game features an improved endgame experience, more precise shooting, and a grittier story.
Unfortunately, due to a delay and the recently announced pause in development, Switch players will likely have to wait quite a while before they can play Kairos.
Switch 2 port removed from Take-Two schedule
Variety first reported that the publisher has delayed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, removing it from their planned release list.

We’ve decided to temporarily stop work on that particular product,” the spokesperson said. “Right now, we’re concentrating on making the game better for players through updates and new content after its release.”
It appears Nintendo is focusing on improving and adding to their current systems instead of completing development on the Switch 2.
Just because development has paused doesn’t mean a Borderlands 4 version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is impossible. It could still happen eventually, but with Take-Two prioritizing GTA 6, it’s unlikely to appear on the Switch 2 in the near future.
