As a big fan of Boots, I was really disappointed when Netflix cancelled it back in December 2025, especially since so many people loved it! I recently learned from Brent Miller, one of the show’s executive producers, what we would have seen in season two – it sounded amazing! He also hinted at the possibility of bringing the show back somehow, which I’m really hoping for. It’s frustrating because the show got some unfair criticism. Apparently, even the Pentagon Press Secretary called it “woke garbage” just because it featured an LGBTQ+ lead character. It’s a funny and well-made show, and deserves another chance.
In a recent interview with Variety, executive producer Miller revealed the planned plot for a second season of Boots. Miller, who is thankful for the opportunity to create a military drama with LGBTQ+ representation, explained that the show would have followed the main characters as they went to war if it had been renewed. Here’s what Miller shared about the storyline:
I’m really thankful we managed to put the show together, and I’m incredibly proud of what we created.
Our creator, Andy Parker, had always intended to take the boys to war in a Season 2.
Miller not only confirmed the news but also shared that the late Norman Lear, a producer on the show, would have been thrilled with its success, even though it’s been cancelled. He added that the team is working hard to find a new network or platform for the series and encouraged fans to advocate for its return.
Right now, Norman is completely consumed with thoughts of the Reiners and their family, and understandably so. But if he’d known about our show being cancelled before the Reiner tragedy, I truly believe he would have been disappointed, yet grateful for the chance to have created it. He’d have been proud that the final project with his name on it resonated with so many people across Netflix’s 190 countries.
Despite understanding that shows get canceled for many reasons, he’d support us, the other executive producers, and Sony in doing everything we could to find a new platform for the actors, writers, and creators. He’d also definitely encourage the fans to loudly voice their support for a second season, no matter where or when it might happen.
The first season of Boots concluded with Cameron Cope, the show’s young, gay main character, successfully completing boot camp and becoming a Marine. This set up potential storylines for a second season, exploring how Cameron and other soldiers might have been affected by combat. Unfortunately, it appears these plans won’t come to fruition, despite the creator’s intentions.

Even though the creator of Boots is optimistic about the show continuing, Netflix ultimately controls its fate. Because Netflix owns the series, critical praise isn’t enough to guarantee its renewal – if they decide to cancel it, a continuation is unlikely. We saw this happen with Warrior Nun, which Netflix cancelled but is now being reimagined as a series of movies instead.
The show’s cancellation is happening at a time when other TV series featuring LGBTQ+ characters are proving very popular with streaming audiences. For example, the streaming service quickly renewed Heated Rivalry, a series about gay hockey players, even before the first season finished airing. While Boots did see a temporary increase in viewers after comments made by its star, Wilson, that wasn’t enough to prevent its cancellation.
If a second season of Boots somehow gets made on a different platform, the show could explore its ideas through action scenes set in the 1990s. However, even with the continued efforts to find it a new home, it would take a significant amount of opposition to Netflix’s decision to actually make something truly original happen.
