Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho is embarking on a new adventure: a 3D animated family film. Known for live-action successes like Parasite and Mickey 17, he’s now turning to animation with Ally, a story about a charming piglet squid living in the Pacific Ocean. Bong Joon-ho, known for dark and intense thrillers like Parasite (which made history as the first non-English film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards), is trying something completely different with his next project, Ally. This animated drama is designed for families and will tell a story about the connection between humans and creatures living in the deep sea. I’m so excited for Bong Joon-ho’s first animated film! Knowing his incredible work, it’s bound to be a big hit, and that first image? Absolutely captivating. The little creature, Ally, is instantly lovable – she reminds me of Grogu from Star Wars or Rocky from Project Hail Mary in how quickly you connect with her. She’s designed with this wonderfully innocent, wide-eyed look, a round blue body, and playful tentacles. You can just feel the sense of wonder she has as she explores the mysterious depths of the South Pacific, and it makes me so eager to see her story unfold.
