Actor Randeep Hooda, known for his work in Bollywood, is preparing to team up once more with “Extraction” director Sam Hargrave for the upcoming action-thriller “Matchbox,” which will be released on Apple Original Films. This collaboration follows their successful project together in 2020, a hit movie that streamed on Netflix.
The movie being made using real actors, inspired by Mattel’s collection of die-cast Matchbox toy cars, features John Cena, Teyonah Parris, Jessica Biel, and Sam Richardson. At this moment, filming is taking place in Budapest, with Hooda being added to the cast.
Hargrave’s direction stems from a screenplay penned by David Coggeshall, known for “The Family Plan” and “Orphan: First Kill,” as well as Jonathan Tropper, who is working on “Your Friends and Neighbors” and “The Adam Project.” This movie is being produced by David Ellison and Dana Goldberg from Skydance, along with Don Granger and Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films.

The story of ‘Matchbox’ revolves around a band of old pals, who find themselves in a situation where they have to join forces to prevent a catastrophic event from happening globally. As they navigate through this perilous journey, they also rekindle the bonds of their childhood friendship.”
Or simply:
“In ‘Matchbox’, a group of friends work together to stop a global disaster, and in the process, they rediscover their long-lost friendship.
As a passionate moviegoer, I’ve got a flick on my radar that’s inspired by the iconic Matchbox toy vehicles, a brainchild of automotive enthusiast Jack Odell back in 1953. You see, Jack’s daughter was only allowed to bring her toy to school if it could fit inside a matchbox. Well, her classmates couldn’t resist the charm of this compact car, and before long, the demand for “matchbox cars” skyrocketed. Today, it’s reported that two Matchbox vehicles are sold every second somewhere across the globe! Can’t wait to catch this movie and revisit the magic of those miniature wheels!
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to collaborate with Sam once more! Our partnership on ‘Extraction’ was phenomenal, and I can’t wait to see what we create together this time. Sam is a genius when it comes to crafting pulse-pounding narratives and breathtaking action sequences. I’m overjoyed to be part of the team in Budapest.
Hargrave, who has built a strong reputation for action coordination in blockbuster films such as “Avengers: Endgame,” “Infinity War,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” and DC’s “Suicide Squad,” has now taken charge of “Extraction 2.” In his initial collaboration with Hooda, the Indian actor delivered an exceptional performance as Saju alongside Chris Hemsworth.
Meanwhile, Hooda, who is directing and acting in the 2024 movie “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,” keeps a full schedule within India’s film industry. Currently, he’s working on “Jaat” under the direction of Gopichand Malineni alongside experienced actor Sunny Deol. This project is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, who are also responsible for “Pushpa 2,” India’s most successful film of 2024. Additionally, Hooda is involved in the production of “Arjun Ustara” directed by renowned director Vishal Bhardwaj.
