Remedy Studio’s newest game, FBC: Firebreak, hasn’t performed as well as hoped. As a result, the company has announced it expects lower profits in 2025 and acknowledged a significant financial loss on the game.
FBC: Firebreak failure
Just to quickly summarize, *FBC: Firebreak* – a cooperative game connected to Control – came out in June, but players weren’t very impressed. It only reached a peak of 1,992 players on Steam before numbers dropped off rapidly. It’s worth noting that the game has been available on Xbox Game Pass since its release.
Remedy quickly began working on improvements, and in late September, they released a significant update that overhauled the core gameplay experience. While player engagement and sales did increase after the game launched, the company noted they still hadn’t reached their expected goals.
Because of this, Remedy revised its sales predictions for the game and its financial forecast for 2025. While they now anticipate revenue will increase compared to last year, they also expect to report an operating loss.
Because sales of *FBC: Firebreak* have been lower than expected, Remedy is reducing its long-term sales predictions for the game. As a result, the company is recording a one-time, non-cash charge of EUR 14.9 million. This charge covers most of the development costs already invested in the game, as well as the costs associated with publishing and distributing it.
Remedy’s CEO, Tero Virtala, said the studio will continue to support and refine *FBC: Firebreak*, but they’re also carefully considering future investments based on sales expectations. This implies the game could eventually be dropped, which isn’t unexpected given its disappointing sales figures.
