Bob Odenkirk Changes Tune On the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Now Says That He Would Be Interested In Joining the MCU: ‘I Love What They’re Doing’ (Exclusive)

Bob Odenkirk, the popular actor, is now open to the possibility of appearing in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film. As the MCU grows with upcoming projects like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they’re looking to add big-name actors to their cast, and Odenkirk is now considering joining them.

I was chatting with Bob Odenkirk at SXSW, and the Better Call Saul star let slip he’s definitely open to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We talked about those rumors linking him to the Wonder Man project – turns out they weren’t true. But he was quick to add he’s a huge fan of what Marvel’s doing, praising their dedication and work ethic. He made it clear he’d happily jump on board if they asked him – and honestly, who wouldn’t?

TopMob asked if the rumors about you being cast in Marvel Studios’ ‘Wonder Man’ were actually true.

Bob Odenkirk confirmed he’d seen a billboard for the upcoming movie ‘Wonder Man’ and thought it looked good. He also said he hadn’t heard a particular rumor that was mentioned, but admitted the idea sounded enjoyable.

TopMob: “Would you be interested in joining the MCU?”

I would definitely be interested. Many talented actors are involved, and they all seem like wonderful people. I’ve spoken with Kevin Feige – he’s a genuinely good person – and I really admire the effort and dedication they put into expanding the Marvel universe and making it so successful.

Although Bob Odenkirk hadn’t said no to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he previously expressed doubts about being a good fit. In 2023, he explained he was looking for roles that felt more realistic and down-to-earth, and didn’t believe he was suited for the style of storytelling in the MCU.

Currently, there have been no reports of Bob Odenkirk discussing roles with Marvel Studios. The studio is actively developing many new movies and TV shows planned for Phase 6 and future releases, including the next two Avengers films.

How Could Bob Odenkirk Join the MCU?

Earlier reports suggested Marvel was considering Bob Odenkirk for a part in Wonder Man, specifically the role of Neal Saroyan – Simon Williams’ agent in the comic books. Ed Harris, famous for films like Apollo 13, was also reportedly a potential candidate for the same role.

Although the character didn’t appear in Wonder Man, this doesn’t rule out Bob Odenkirk potentially playing a different role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.

Many fans have suggested Bob Odenkirk would be a great choice to play the Green Goblin, a classic Marvel villain. With Willem Dafoe recently returning to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Odenkirk could be perfect for taking on the character in future Marvel films set in the main universe (Earth-616).

Considering his skill at portraying complex, morally ambiguous characters, Bob Odenkirk could be a great addition to shows like Daredevil: Born Again or other projects featuring those Netflix characters. He’d be believable as either a hero or villain with superpowers, but he could also play a compelling role like Matthew Lillard’s character in Born Again – a shady politician working against Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio.
