Sony (PlayStation) recently issued a removal request to modder Lance McDonald, famed for his modification enabling Bloodborne to run at 60 frames per second. The modification had been accessible since early 2021; however, it appears that Sony has chosen to take action only now. In response, McDonald declared that he would adhere to the request and eradicate any links pointing towards the mod.
Modder of Bloodborne 60fps mod will comply with PlayStation’s takedown notice
FromSoftware, the creator behind Bloodborne, has earned a top-tier reputation in contemporary action game development. In 2022, Elden Ring achieved remarkable success, even taking home Game of the Year at that year’s Game Awards against God of War Ragnarok. Notably, Bloodborne was one of only two PlayStation exclusive titles from the developer, the other being Demon’s Souls.
For quite some time, enthusiasts have yearned for Bloodborne to receive an update to contemporary specifications, such as a 60fps patch, but it seems that FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki might be preoccupied and unable to make any decisions regarding Bloodborne at the moment. Enter McDonald’s mod, a fan-created solution aimed at fulfilling the long-desired upgrade. Regrettably, even this modification is no longer accessible now.
In a message shared on social media, McDonald stated, “I’ve just received a request to remove links I had posted online for a patch, sent by Sony Interactive Entertainment via a DMCA takedown notice. As a result, I’ve taken down those links.” This announcement sparked a mix of reactions from fans, who are both sad about the removal yet hopeful that it signals an upcoming official re-release or patch for Bloodborne in the coming weeks.
This information arrives following months where it was said that Sony was discussing a potential acquisition of the parent company of FromSoftware, Kadokawa. However, no additional information regarding this matter has surfaced since November.
Presently, FromSoftware is intending to launch a separate multiplayer game titled Elden Ring: Nightreign within the world of Elden Ring this year. However, the reaction from fans regarding this upcoming game has been somewhat divided, and there’s still much we don’t know about it. It could be that this removal was carried out now because Sony is planning something with Bloodborne, but let’s not hold our breath. There’s a possibility that it might appear on the Nintendo Switch 2 in April.
