The film *It Ends with Us* told a particularly intricate story, and it unexpectedly became a major box office success. However, this achievement was quickly overshadowed by a significant legal dispute that followed its release. The movie’s popularity, and even talk of potential sequels, have been largely forgotten due to the ongoing lawsuits.
The possibility of awards recognition for *It Ends with Us* wasn’t really mentioned at all. Even before the legal issues involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni dominated the conversation, the film wasn’t considered a likely awards winner. This is a shame for Lively, as reports suggest she could have earned a significant amount of money if she had won an Oscar or other major accolades.
Blake Lively Would Have Received Bonuses For Award Nominations, Including Oscars
Recently released legal documents from Justin Baldoni’s team, as reported by US Weekly, reveal a draft of Blake Lively’s contract for the movie *It Ends with Us*. The contract stated Lively would receive $1.75 million upfront, plus an additional $250,000 for each of four specific achievements if the film performed well at the box office – earning three to five times its production cost.
I was really fascinated to learn about the bonus structure in Blake Lively’s contract! It wasn’t just about salary; she could have earned extra money based on awards recognition. Basically, if she was nominated for a SAG Award, Golden Globe, or even an Oscar, she’d get a bonus. And the biggest potential bonus? A whopping $100,000 just for an Oscar nomination, and *another* $100,000 if she actually won! It’s amazing to see how much these awards can be worth.
It Ends With Us Was Never In Contention For Oscars
Just to be clear, Lively wasn’t up for any of these awards, and wasn’t really considered a likely nominee. Although the movie did well in theaters, critics had a mixed opinion of it – and generally, positive reviews are a better sign of awards potential than box office numbers.
The movie might have initially been expected to do better. It’s also possible it was considered a low-risk project. Increasingly, big stars are accepting lower initial salaries, instead earning most of their money based on how well the film performs.
The contract provided by Baldoni’s lawyers is labeled as a “draft” and hasn’t been signed. It’s uncertain whether this is the final agreement Blake Lively actually signed, or simply an earlier version considered during negotiations.
Blake Lively has accused Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment during the filming of the movie *It Ends With Us*. Baldoni denies the accusations and initially filed a lawsuit against Lively, but a judge has since dismissed it. The current case is scheduled to be heard in court in March 2026.
