To celebrate the 2026 Chinese New Year, Game Science, the team behind Black Myth: Wukong, unexpectedly released a six-minute video showcasing Black Myth: Zhong Kui, offering fans a first glimpse at the next installment in the Black Myth series.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is a new action role-playing game for a single player, drawing inspiration from the famous Chinese folklore character Zhong Kui, a legendary demon hunter. It first gained attention at Gamescom 2025 with a short video showing demons and a man riding a tiger.
Honestly, since the initial announcement, the developers haven’t said much at all. We’re still waiting to see any actual gameplay, and they haven’t given us even a hint of when it might come out or what other systems it could be on. It’s a little frustrating as a fan, but I’m still hopeful!
Just before the Chinese New Year on February 17th, Game Science shared a six-minute video offering fans a detailed – and somewhat unusual – preview of their latest project.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui releases new video
Even though this video isn’t considered part of the official story, it gives fans a first look at the game’s graphics and the creatures in it.
Instead of a battle, the scene shows a bizarre cooking segment: a woman is preparing a lavish meal using monsters as ingredients.
With a focused gaze, she expertly cuts meat, gathers herbs from a strangely small, otherworldly child, and breaks down a massive grasshopper, all while her equally peculiar friends help out in the kitchen.
If you’ve seen the anime Delicious in Dungeon, you’ll know the chef is surprisingly good at turning scary monster bits into surprisingly tasty-looking food. (No shame in enjoying it!)
Near the end of the video, a person wearing a hood is brought into a dark room and given a large bowl of ramen designed to look like a monster. The video then cuts to black as the person’s hood is removed.
It’s hard to say exactly what Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be like, but the recent Chinese New Year video has definitely sparked a lot of excitement, even if the game’s bizarre monster-themed imagery is a little strange.
