As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of frustration as yet another highly anticipated title, Black Myth: Wukong, continues to elude its Xbox release due to technical issues stemming from the Series S’s memory constraints. It’s like being a kid on Christmas morning, eagerly awaiting that one toy you’ve been dreaming about, only to find out Santa’s sleigh was too small to carry it this year.

I remember Baldur’s Gate 3, a game I had eagerly anticipated for years, suffering the same fate last year due to technical issues with the Series S version. It was a bitter pill to swallow, and I fear history may be repeating itself with Black Myth: Wukong.

That being said, I can’t help but marvel at the game’s impressive accolades. With 18 million copies sold and an expansion on the way, it’s clear that this title has captured the hearts of gamers everywhere. Its recent update adding new equipment and quality-of-life features only serves to further enhance my excitement for the game.

But alas, patience is a virtue, as they say, and I shall continue to wait for the day when I can finally add Black Myth: Wukong to my ever-growing collection of Xbox games. In the meantime, I’ll console myself with the thought that at least my Xbox Series S has plenty of storage space to house all the other fantastic titles available today. And who knows? Maybe one day, when the Series S’s memory issues have been ironed out, I’ll finally get to swing Monkey King’s staff and explore the mystical world of Black Myth: Wukong on my Xbox.

On a lighter note, perhaps we can take solace in the fact that at least our beloved Xbox consoles aren’t being held up by elves who are slow at crafting toys… yet. (wink wink)

According to the creator of Black Myth: Wukong, the hold-up in releasing the game on Xbox is because the memory limitations of the Xbox Series S are causing performance issues.

As a gamer myself, I’ve noticed some troubles with the Xbox Series S’s 10GB of shared memory. GameScience CEO Feng Ji mentioned on Weibo that this setup has been causing optimization issues. Interestingly, last year, Microsoft claimed the game delay wasn’t because of Xbox hardware limitations, but it seems the Series S ran into this particular problem even before.

In 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 came out on Xbox later than expected due to technical complications with the Series S version. Meanwhile, Black Myth: Wukong was rumored to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, but neither Game Science nor Sony officially confirmed this.

2024 saw Black Myth: Wukong being recognized as a nominee for the prestigious Game of the Year award at The Game Awards, but it didn’t take home that title. However, it did triumph in the Best Action Game category and even claimed its own Game of the Year win at The Steam Awards of the same year.

To date, Black Myth: Wukong has achieved sales of 18 million copies and is set to release an expansion soon. Additionally, it received a significant update last month, introducing new gear and enhancements to gameplay. Currently, the game can be played on PC and PS5, though details regarding its release on Xbox are yet to be announced.
