Electronic Arts (EA) and BioWare have officially announced they are developing a new Mass Effect game, confirming long-held rumors. The announcement came during the celebration of N7 Day, a fan-created holiday for the Mass Effect series. While they didn’t reveal if it’s Mass Effect 5 or when more details will be shared, it’s positive news for fans. BioWare has faced some challenges recently, with their latest Dragon Age release not performing as well as hoped, increasing the importance of a successful Mass Effect game. Adding to the uncertainty, EA was recently acquired in a multi-billion dollar deal, leaving the future of many of their games and development teams unclear.
BioWare confirms rumors that they are working on a Mass Effect game
N7 Day is celebrated every November 7th, a nod to the date and a special designation within the world of Mass Effect. The N7 rank is the highest achievable in the game’s military. While not initially an official event created by BioWare or Electronic Arts, fans started the tradition, and it grew so popular that BioWare now participates, often using the day to share news about the Mass Effect franchise.

The latest N7 Day post officially confirmed what many fans suspected: a new Mass Effect game is in the works, and both EA and BioWare are dedicated to continuing the series. While this puts the rumors to rest, fans are already eager to learn more about the upcoming game. It’s unclear whether it will be Mass Effect 5, picking up where the last game left off, or a completely new direction. Regardless, BioWare is hoping for a successful launch, as the studio could really benefit from a win right now.
BioWare used to be considered one of the top game developers. They were famous for early hits like Baldur’s Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and the critically acclaimed Dragon Age and Mass Effect series. However, they haven’t achieved the same level of success recently. While critics generally liked Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it hasn’t resonated with fans as much as previous games. Before that, Mass Effect: Andromeda also fell short of expectations.
We haven’t seen much of the next Mass Effect game yet – just a short teaser trailer. Whether we find out more soon depends on how things progress at BioWare and Electronic Arts, but it could still be quite a while before we get a proper look.
