BioShock And Borderlands Veterans Drop First Look At Wartorn

Independent video game developer Stray Kite Studios, comprised of industry veterans from BioShock, Borderlands, and Age of Empires, has unveiled a sneak peek at their first original title called Wartorn. The trailer below showcases the game’s storyline, which centers around two elven sisters struggling to stay alive in order to be reunited with their family. Their journey will require some challenging choices to be made.

In their adventure, battles will significantly shape their path, but they won’t be the sole determinants of their destiny. The Kite, Stray, hinted that the sisters would encounter moral quandaries and grapple with both external and internal challenges. Fortunately, they possess some power in this enchanted realm.

According to Paul Hellquist, the creative director of Stary Kite Studios, Wartorn puts players to the test by guiding them through the turmoil of a fragmented world, offering opportunities for both enjoyment and introspection. The game is designed with a focus on exploring themes like sacrifice, survival, and unity through bonds, as well as stirring meaningful thoughts in the hearts of its players.

In addition, the studio highlighted the destructible settings and the intricate fight mechanism where players manipulate water, fire, and electricity. The game Wartorn features a roguelike advancement system that grants upgrades, gear, and new skills for each playthrough. Moreover, players can slow down time to prevent their characters from being overpowered during intense battles.

Before the current project, Stray Kite Studios collaborated with Gearbox and 2K on Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure. This studio is also known for developing mini-games within Fortnite Creative.

Wartorn will be available in early access on Steam and Epic Game Store in Spring 2025.
