Beyond Good and Evil 2 might become the video game with the longest development time ever if it’s eventually released. It’s been 17 years since the original game, but Ubisoft recently posted a job opening, indicating they are still working on the sequel.
Ubisoft is hiring a technical sound designer for Beyond Good and Evil 2. This person will be responsible for creating sound effects and music, leading the technical side of audio development, and suggesting new audio ideas to be implemented in the game.
Interestingly, the game’s description confirms that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be a prequel to the first game. It promises a smooth experience of exploring and becoming a space pirate across a solar system filled with unique places, interesting people, and secrets—all playable alone or with others. This hints that the sequel will support multiplayer.
The 20th Anniversary Edition of Beyond Good & Evil introduced a side quest that revealed more about Jade’s childhood and the pirates who raised her, hinting at the story of the upcoming sequel. Despite this, it seems the sequel won’t resolve the unresolved plot point left at the end of the original game.
The creator of the first Beyond Good & Evil game, Michel Ancel, left the sequel project and retired in 2020. Sadly, Emile Morel, who was leading the game’s creative direction, passed away unexpectedly in 2023.
Back in 2020, Netflix planned a movie based on the game Beyond Good & Evil, with Rob Letterman – known for directing Detective Pikachu – set to direct. Unfortunately, that movie never came to be. Recently, the game received a small nod when it was referenced in the game Astro Bot.
