Bethesda director Todd Howard says Elder Scrolls 6 is “progressing really well” and “the majority of the studio” is working on the Skyrim successor: “We have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them”

Although The Elder Scrolls 6 is likely still a ways off, Bethesda’s Todd Howard shared some positive news: development is going smoothly and the majority of the studio is currently focused on making the sequel to Skyrim.

Howard recently caused some confusion when he mentioned Fallout 76 was where Bethesda Game Studios was putting in the most effort. He’s now made it clear that the majority of the studio is actually working on Elder Scrolls 6, which is expected and makes sense given how eagerly fans are awaiting its release.

Todd Howard told Game Informer that development of The Elder Scrolls 6 is going smoothly. Most of the studio is currently working on the game, but they often work on multiple projects at once and spend a lot of time planning beforehand to ensure quality. While everyone wants it to come out sooner, they’re focused on making sure the game is done right.

It’s understandable that small updates like this won’t satisfy fans who have been eagerly awaiting news about Elder Scrolls 6 for years, particularly after the game wasn’t featured at the 2025 Game Awards. Todd Howard has acknowledged it’s been a long time since the last Elder Scrolls release – and with Skyrim now 14 years old, that feels like an understatement. The sequel was first announced over seven years ago with a short teaser at E3 in 2018, and we still don’t have a clear idea of when we might see more information.
