Ranking the best perks in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there are more than 200 benefits to select from, categorized across various abilities stemming from your fundamental attributes. Certain benefits streamline your leveling experience, while others provide the extra edge required for the endgame.
As a gamer, I’ll break down these bonuses for you according to tiers, meaning they can be selected regardless of the playstyle I’ve opted for from the get-go.
D-tier perks
These perks are non-essential, but help to have in the early stages of the game.
Featherweight
Perk category: Agility
In the realm of 15th-century Bohemia, I’ve found myself navigating some rather treacherous terrains. On occasions, you might stumble upon a precipice so steep it could easily go unnoticed due to the dense foliage obscuring your view. But fear not! This perk is a lifesaver, reducing Henry’s fall damage by an impressive 30 percent. This means that falls that would have been fatal for him, now only leave him a bit worse for wear.
Flower Power
Perk category: Survival
Regardless of where you journey, keep an eye out for herbs sprouting abundantly. Gathering a few here and there can aid your alchemical endeavors. Moreover, as an added benefit, amassing approximately 30 of these will also enhance your Charisma by two points. Be aware that this bonus is effective only with fresh herbs, so ensure they remain vibrant and unwilted.
Head Start
Perk category: Horsemanship
Riding a horse significantly expedites your travels through Bohemia, and given that you can obtain one relatively early in the game, this advantage will further enhance your Horsemanship skills. A swift start feature will cause your horse to sprint faster than the wind momentarily, helping you escape dangerous situations or giving you an edge if you choose to participate in races.
C-tier perks
These perks are retroactively effective at any point in time.
Charming Companion
Perk category: Houndmaster
After you manage to retrieve your faithful dog Mutt again, he’ll be a constant companion on your adventure, rarely leaving your side except for occasional exceptions. This bonus will persist almost indefinitely since he’s usually with Henry. Your Charisma score increases by three when Mutt is around, significantly enhancing all of your charm-based skill checks.
Charming Man/Opportunist
Perk category: Main Level
In a new town or when bargaining for favorable prices, Henry’s reputation significantly influences how others interact with him. Treat people well in general, and your public image may grow; act otherwise, and it could decline. The “Charming Man” trait increases your reputation gains by 10%, while the “Opportunist” characteristic decreases your reputation losses by the same amount.
Depending on how you play, pick one of the two because they are mutually exclusive.
Hellhound
Perk category: Houndmaster
As a fervent admirer, if you enjoy playing up Henry’s menacing presence to its full potential, this perk is tailor-made for you. The Hellhound trait will amplify Henry’s intimidating demeanor whenever you converse with Mutt within proximity. This perk offers an advantage during Presence and Intimidation skill checks, significantly increasing the likelihood of success and striking fear into enemies, causing them to yield.
Moreover, this advantage applies during conflicts as well. Henry’s adversaries may find it more challenging to resist or surrender sooner when faced with him.
B-tier perks
These perks help you in combat and conversation alike.
Driven by Vengeance
Perk category: Main Level
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but sing the praises of this invaluable perk that’s always got my back. In the heat of battle, whether it’s hand-to-hand or armed encounters, Driven by Vengeance never lets me down. When it comes to resolving disputes with brute force instead of diplomacy, this perk delivers a double whammy—it boosts my attack speed and stamina regeneration each time I take down an opponent. This perk truly excels in high-stakes situations where the odds are stacked against me, allowing me to methodically eliminate my foes one by one.
Jack of All Trades
Perk category: Speech
Jack of All Trades is a versatile bonus that can seamlessly fit into any character setup. This skill boost provides an additional two points to any ability when you participate in dialogue. These enhanced abilities encompass Persuasion and Coercion, as well as Presence and Intimidation, ensuring that Jack of All Trades remains valuable regardless of your chosen path.
Furthermore, should you manage to pass those ability checks while having the Jack of All Trades talent activated, you’ll earn double the usual experience points as a bonus.
Nimble Stance
Perk category: Agility
In the sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, combat can be challenging for beginners due to frequent encounters where Henry is outnumbered. Mastering the art of dodging is crucial for survival because it reduces the odds in your favor. The Nimble Stance skill significantly lowers the stamina cost of all your evasive moves by 40%, enabling you to dodge smoothly while under attack, providing ample opportunity for a counterattack.
Choosing this advantage anytime during the game significantly boosts your ability to engage in both armed and unarmed fights, enhancing your overall fighting capabilities.
A-tier perks
These perks are amazing to have for every kind of playstyle.
Liberal Arts
Perk category: Scholarship
In simpler terms, choosing Liberal Arts early in your journey is an advantageous bonus. Once your Scholarship reaches level 10, you’ll be entitled to this bonus. This bonus enables you to assess the complexity of multiple skill challenges.
In the initial stages of the game, Liberal Arts provides guidance on whether selecting a particular choice in dialogue sections is advisable or not, thus simplifying your early game experience and increasing your chances of passing challenging skill checks.
Noteworthy is that this benefit does not reveal the skill levels of your adversaries, which is why Liberal Arts didn’t earn a spot in our S tier.
Next to Godliness
Perk category: Vitality
In certain situations, Henry may find himself stumbling towards the closest town, near death and seeing a red screen before his eyes, with no place to lie down. At this point, it’s recommended that you seek out the nearest water source, like a trough or body of water, where you can use the Next to Godliness perk to take a refreshing dip. Cleaning yourself in the water will not only provide a sense of refreshment but also restore 10 health points, helping Henry recover.
Regardless of how much you recover, maintaining a clean body can boost your rate of healing, reducing the amount of sleep required to reach full health. Additionally, being well-groomed makes Henry more appealing and increases his chances of success in verbal interactions.
Showtime
Perk category: Swords
This advantage becomes increasingly powerful as the narrative unfolds and you acquire additional combo sequences from instructors specializing in skills. Showtime is a desirable choice if you prefer swords, as it will replenish some of your stamina upon executing a successful combo or master strike. The effectiveness of this perk improves with more knowledge of sword combos, so be sure to seek out skill teachers in every settlement along your journey.
As a gamer, I’ve learned that managing my stamina is crucial for success in battles. Any perk that boosts my stamina management will significantly help Henry in the long run, making him more robust and powerful with each passing fight.
S-tier perks
Henry will personally thank you for picking up these perks.
Against All Odds
Perk category: Warfare
As you progress further in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it becomes increasingly apparent that the battles are seldom favorable for Henry. You’ll often find yourself vastly outnumbered, with enemies closing in from all directions. To even the odds, consider selecting the ‘Against All Odds’ perk. This skill boost will grant Henry a bonus of two points to his Strength, Agility, and Warfare abilities whenever he engages in multiple combat situations.
As a seasoned gamer, I can’t wait to unlock this combat perk! The stat boosts it provides will be a game-changer when combined with the rest of the perks in its tier. With these bonuses, I’ll be able to mow through enemies with ease once I’ve honed my skills enough.
Leshy
Perk category: Survival
Initially, Leshy may not appear to be a top-tier advantage on its own, but when paired with other perks, it significantly boosts its value. Leshy allows Henry to become nearly undetectable in forested environments by minimizing his scent trail. Additionally, this ability enhances Henry’s stamina recovery by 15% and increases his Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Stealth.
Leshy offers two tiers of bonuses. Advancing to the second level boosts the stat improvements even more. For Henry, Leshy II enhances Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Stealth by additional points. Moreover, this perk extends Leshy’s buffs to all areas outside towns and settlements.
Since most of your combat takes place outside cities, Leshy is a must-have for any build.
Pack Mule
Perk category: Strength
Obtaining early points in Strength offers a significant benefit due to the Perk “Pack Mule.” This perk boosts Henry’s carrying capacity by 12 pounds, making it easier to collect items like loot from dead bodies or gather herbs. With this extra load, heavy armor transport becomes less of a strain and proves useful when your horse is full.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but appreciate the convenience this feature offers, particularly during those extended skirmishes. When you need a swift income boost right after a couple of tough battles, it comes in handy. Pairing it with the Hard-Working Lad perk in the game’s early phases not only speeds up your progress but also significantly increases your carrying capacity.
