Ben Stiller to Lead Dramedy Series ‘The Band’ in Development at HBO

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been tapped to spearhead a hilarious and heartfelt drama-comedy series about the music world, which is being developed by HBO right now. This exciting news comes straight from the horse’s mouth, EbMaster.

Titled “The Band,” this series provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of the music industry. The story revolves around Oscar (Stiller), a renowned pop producer and talent scout, who is mired in scandal. To salvage his career and maybe even his soul, he must assemble a new act.

The show is created by Sarah Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, who additionally act as its executive producers and showrunners. Stiller and John Lesher hold the role of executive producers under their Red Hour Films production company, along with Savan Kotecha, Michael Ellenberg, and Lindsey Springer from Media Res. Together with HBO, Media Res will co-produce this series.

This opportunity signifies a noteworthy shift for Stiller, as it presents him with a leading acting role, a position he’s seldom occupied since focusing primarily on directing and producing for the past few years.
