Alesia really pulled something off, and you have to admire her for it. While it’s understandable she wasn’t happy and shouldn’t have put herself through hardship, the way she completely flipped a difficult situation to her advantage is remarkable. The conflict between Alesia and Ben has led to a surprising new addition to the team: Ellie, who you might remember from season nine of Mediterranean. She was caught in a complicated love triangle with Joe and Bri. Interestingly, Ben was already reaching out to Ellie on Instagram before she arrived, and she made quite an entrance, wearing a bright pink, sparkly dress.
This week’s episode picks up with Alesia and Jason still talking. It’s revealed that Jason is hesitant to let Alesia go because they’re friends outside of the show. He also believes she wants to pursue a career as a chef and advises her to be patient and try to improve her work environment in the kitchen. However, the conversation fizzles out – Alesia isn’t interested in becoming a better chef or fixing things with Ben – and they don’t make any concrete plans. With it being the last day of the charter, it’s finally time to say goodbye to the guests.
The conflict hasn’t let up for a second. It’s become constant, even happening during morning yoga and at breakfast. Daisy and Jenna have gotten so used to it they barely notice anymore. Alesia confronted Ben in the kitchen, telling him that, while she cares for him, she can’t continue working with him. Ben explained that the intense pressure of a professional kitchen often leads to harshness, something he picked up from previous jobs, and he apologized for being rude. He genuinely wants to be a good leader, so Alesia’s decision to distance herself upset him. I hoped this honest conversation would lead to better communication and a chance for things to improve, but I was clearly mistaken.
Meredith, teaming up with Bronwyn and dressed in ridiculous inflatable suits, ended her argument with Britani by dramatically throwing her unsettling unicorn doll—voiced like Jared—into the ocean. Showing the clear class divide that defines this show, João then had to arrange for someone to retrieve it, which is both illegal and inconsiderate. Later, as they were leaving, Daisy chased after Britani to return the unicorn. We avoid any more immediate drama, but I’ve heard things escalated significantly on the flight home.
As the group prepared to head out, sparks flew between Jenna and Ben, and Alesia and Eddy. Jenna confidently pursued Ben, but their connection didn’t lead to anything romantic. Meanwhile, Eddy seemed to be hitting it off with Alesia until she casually mentioned she’d been dating someone for a couple of months – a guy she met in Canada. Eddy was completely taken aback! The news ruined his mood, and even though he was a great dancer, he decided to go to bed while everyone else went to the jacuzzi. That turned out to be a wise decision, as the jacuzzi quickly became a scene of drama.
The group started playing “Shag, Marry, Kill,” and Daisy jokingly said she’d eliminate Ben, marry Mike, and have a fling with Jenna. When Alesia played, she also chose to eliminate Ben, but unlike with Daisy, he didn’t find it funny. This led to a heated argument about loyalty, Alesia’s unfamiliarity with the close-knit atmosphere of the kitchen, and respecting someone in a leadership position. Everyone stepped in to calm things down, and eventually, Ben and Alesia shook hands. Afterwards, Ben unexpectedly broke down crying, revealing in a private interview that he’d had a difficult year – his ex-fiancée had cheated on him with a friend, leading to their breakup, and he was feeling disillusioned. While his reaction to the game seemed extreme, it was hard not to sympathize with him. Daisy felt bad too and offered him the chance to sleep in a separate cabin to get some peace and rest.
Mike, who’s secretly been hoping Daisy would notice him, awkwardly tries to kiss her, but she’s clearly not interested. The next morning, he apologizes, and she explains she has a rule against dating coworkers. Luckily, Jenna finds them and pulls Mike back to work, making sure he’s ready before the new stewardess arrives. It’s becoming obvious that Mike spends more time chatting than actually doing his job – earlier that day, João had to remind him to get back to work when he was talking to Eddy about his failed romance with Alesia. Speaking of Alesia, she tells Jenna she regrets yelling at her boss and feels awful about it. Jenna encourages Ben to apologize and take the high road, and he decides to do so.
It’s too late now, but Alesia made it clear to Jason before Ben reached the kitchen: she would either get a replacement assistant chef or she would accept a position as a cabin stewardess and stay. She delivered the ultimatum boldly, surprisingly not bothering the captain – he actually seemed stunned. She wants to be a flight attendant? It would have been useful to know that before she started as a sous chef, or if Jason had hired someone else. A new cabin stewardess is already en route, and as he explained to Daisy, he couldn’t ask the pilot to turn the plane around.
Daisy shared details with Jason about the previous night’s argument, and she concurred with Alesia that the galley wouldn’t make it through the season as things stood. She’d be open to Alesia joining her team, if Alesia was willing to work in the galley. Daisy thinks the whole situation is absurd – it’s not right to expect someone hired as a stewardess to suddenly do a completely different job, especially when there are likely many qualified sous-chefs available. She believes Ben should be frustrated; this is a chance to bring on someone with genuine kitchen skills and drive. Jason is let down by Alesia, but his personal feelings cloud his judgment and weaken his authority. He worries that other crew members might start switching departments when faced with difficulties. Ellie agreed to help out in the galley, and when Jason moved Alesia to the interior team, he was direct. He made it clear to her that she put him in a tough spot, should have tried harder to succeed in the kitchen, and now needs to work extremely hard to prove herself. Alesia assured him she would.
This week’s preference sheet meeting revealed a glimpse into the lives of our new primary guests, Christian and Annette, who are celebrating Christian’s 50th birthday at their estate in Greenwich, Connecticut. They’re planning a polo match with friends, and we see them preparing for it. Honestly, I’m not interested in their personal lives; I just want to see the drama unfold on the yacht, and it seems likely we’ll get it. Annette is known for being demanding – she once sent someone all the way to Athens from Mykonos just to get a forgotten pillow! But even that isn’t the biggest issue discussed. Jason brought up a problem in the galley: Ben wants to give Alesia another chance as a chef, but it’s too late to keep switching people around, as it could leave Daisy waiting a long time to train a new one. Jason also pointed out that there’s no guarantee Alesia would even be good at interior, making this whole situation an experiment.
Honestly, I’m worried about the new sous chef. She doesn’t seem to have much more kitchen experience than Alesia, so she really needs to have a good attitude and be able to handle a lot of pressure for this to work. What the show doesn’t tell us right away is that it’s Ellie coming in – and everyone knows she’s super competitive, easily frustrated, and doesn’t take criticism well. The preview made it pretty clear this wasn’t going to be smooth sailing! Ben seems totally oblivious right now, convinced he knows her. Everyone else is excited because she’s beautiful and speaks so many languages, but Jenna? She’s keeping her feelings hidden. You could see her disapproval when Ellie arrived. I think she’ll be relieved when she doesn’t have to work with her anymore in a few days.
Jenna’s also dealing with a lot right now, as she’s started training both Mike and Alesia. She might even try to teach Mike to be a little more careful with fragile objects! The next morning, after Alesia and Ben resolve their issues and he apologizes for being rude, she begins showing Alesia the ropes. Meanwhile, Betul and João are building a genuinely friendly working relationship. João has been keeping his word about staying professional and mature, which is a good thing – it’s better if he leaves the drama to Ellie.
