Beloved Elden Ring Steed Replaced by Spectral Hawks in Nightreign!

Though Torrent, the horse from Elden Ring, won’t appear as Nightreign, the game’s director is confident that the updated travel system will compensate for this absence.

In both Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree extension, Torrent plays a crucial role. Not only is it handy for moving around the expansive open world, but it’s also indispensable in certain battle situations.

However, the forthcoming Nightreign cooperative adventure promises a distinct take on the Elden Ring journey, where sessions seldom exceed a duration of 45 minutes.

As a seasoned gamer, I’ve noticed that the fast-paced action in Nightreign, developed by FromSoftware, has taken a different turn compared to their previous games. Instead of me, the player, being involved in the traditional traversal mechanics, it seems like they’ve decided to shake things up this time around. So, it looks like I’ll be taking a backseat for now when it comes to navigating the game world.

Elden Ring Nightreign director says players won’t need a horse

At the sneak peek of Nightreign, I learned straight from Director Junya Ishizaki himself that this time around, there’ll be no steed at our disposal in the game.

According to Ishizaki as reported by Dot Esports, the team anticipates that the Nightreign players will fully leverage the “novel movement mechanics.” Furthermore, he mentioned that both traversal and exploration have been significantly altered in tandem with the “pace and sensation” of the game.

The developer expressed their hope that players will find pleasure in utilizing the sprinting and mounting system, as well as the Spectral Hawks, for moving around the map. They’ve aimed to modify the traversal experience, and indeed, it often feels faster than riding Torrent when returning to Elden Ring gameplay.

Nightreign might reduce the need for riding horses. But based on what we know about Spectral Hawks (as mentioned by Ishizaki), players won’t be lacking a helpful animal companion to aid with moving around.

These beings can be found scattered throughout the map, appearing at different spots to transport players directly to designated destinations when they fly.

Some participants will have the opportunity to witness the unfolding events as Nightreign’s Network Test begins on Valentine’s Day, which is on February 14th.
