Beckett just sent a Pokemon card to space to prove its grade isn’t just for show

A flawless Pokémon card, professionally graded by Beckett, was sent to the edge of space and returned in perfect condition.

Beckett, a leading trading card company, teamed up with Dragon Shield to launch a highly valuable Black Label Pokémon card into near space. The card was secured in several Dragon Shield sleeves and sent 120,000 feet above Earth using a special setup created by Sent Into Space. Despite facing strong winds and extremely cold temperatures—as low as -94°F—during its three-hour journey, the card remarkably returned in perfect condition.

The companies wanted to demonstrate how strong Dragon Shield’s triple-sleeve protection is, and prove that even cards graded by Beckett – the most highly valued ones – could withstand extreme conditions.

Once the card was back on Earth, Beckett re-examined it and verified it was still in perfect, Black Label condition. Kevin Isaacson, CEO of Collectivus Holdings, celebrated the successful test, stating, “If Dragon Shield can protect cards in the harsh environment of space, it’s sure to keep your collections safe at home.”

From November 12th to 19th, the card will be up for auction at Heritage Auctions, and all money raised will go to The Toy Foundation. To celebrate, Dragon Shield is releasing a special, limited-edition set of “Dragons in Space” card sleeves – the same ones used to protect the card during its travels.

This Pokémon card is a unique collectible – it’s the first of its kind to actually travel to near space! It shows that even pristine items can withstand the harsh conditions of space.
