We hear the term ‘next-gen’ a lot these days, but occasionally a game truly feels like the future when you first play it. Those moments don’t happen often, but they really stick with you.
I especially remember experiencing Spider-Man PS4, God of War, and Horizon: Zero Dawn for the first time. The game Clair Obscur also really stood out, demonstrating the exciting potential of games created by diverse studios, both large and small.
Honestly, even though it’s still early days before 2026, I’m already seeing some open-world games that are starting to give me that ‘wow’ factor again! It’s really exciting, and what’s even cooler is that these promising games are coming from developers I wouldn’t necessarily have expected.
Most major game developers are staying quiet this year, except for Rockstar Games, and the games coming out might just change the landscape. Here’s a look at some truly impressive titles on the horizon.
8. Light No Fire
A Beautiful World

Hello Games, the creators of No Man’s Sky, are now working on Light No Fire. Like its predecessor, the title includes ‘No,’ which naturally brings high expectations. Given the rocky start of No Man’s Sky, Hello Games will probably be cautious about announcing specific features for this new game. However, the impressive trailers have already sparked a lot of excitement and speculation.
Light No Fire is a visually stunning game that prioritizes artistic style over photorealism, demonstrating that there are many exciting possibilities for the future of game graphics.
The game’s colors are incredibly vibrant, and it’s obvious the developers are using some impressive technology. We’re already anticipating it will require powerful computers to run smoothly.
7. Beast of Reincarnation
A New Kind of Beast
Gamefreak, the team known for Pokémon, is trying something new with Beast of Reincarnation. While they usually work with simpler graphics, they’re aiming high with this title. The game’s visuals are strikingly beautiful, reminiscent of the impressive graphics found in Ghost of Yotei and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, two of the most visually stunning games expected in 2025.
It’s still unclear if this game will stand out visually – it currently looks similar to other “Souls-like” games. However, that’s not necessarily a negative, as the genre has produced many beautiful games, and some, like the remake of Demon’s Souls, truly showcase next-generation graphics.
Beast of Reincarnation immediately grabs your attention with its striking visuals. Though the gameplay itself isn’t revolutionary, it’s these visuals that are expected to draw players in. We’ll find out in 2026 if that proves to be true.
6. The Blood of Dawnwalker
New Blood in a Familiar World
Blood of Dawnwalker is developed by a new studio, but it’s staffed by veterans from CD Projekt Red, so we have high expectations. Visually, it strongly resembles The Witcher 3, but appears to be building on that style to create something even more expansive and immersive.
The game looks fantastic, boasting incredible detail, stunning lighting, and a huge world to discover. The changing day and night cycle promises dramatic weather effects, and the overall graphics are truly impressive. The trailer’s cutscenes are exceptionally clear and create a dark fantasy atmosphere. While grounded in a semi-realistic setting overrun with vampires, the game leans into a gothic and fantastical style, offering a unique visual experience.
Whether or not you’ll enjoy playing it is still up in the air, but this game is sure to be visually impressive – truly one of the best-looking next-generation titles we’ve seen – and it should be released soon.
5. Fable
A Fairytale Come To Life
Fable has been anticipated for a long time, and is currently slated for release in 2026. Whenever it arrives, the game promises a truly unique and stunning visual style, unlike anything seen in other open-world games. Even the small glimpses we’ve seen so far are remarkably different.
As a long-time fan, what really strikes me about this game is how it captures that same magical, storybook feel as the older titles. But it’s not just nostalgia – the graphics are incredible! They’re really pushing things with modern technology, and honestly, it reminds me of a Pixar movie. If I had to compare it to another game, I’d say it’s closest to Dragon Age: The Veilguard – and even if you didn’t love that game, you have to admit it looked fantastic. I’m confident that when this one finally releases, it’s going to be a visual masterpiece.
4. Chronicles: Medieval
A View of War
Chronicles: Medieval looks incredibly promising! It seems to blend the best aspects of both Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord – a truly exciting combination. The game is visually stunning, featuring beautiful landscapes and impressively large-scale battles with many soldiers. The combat animations also appear very polished and realistic.
Despite being made by a smaller team, Chronicles: Medieval is technically impressive, delivering high-quality visuals even with many characters on screen. It’s an ambitious game that aims to realistically portray large-scale warfare, going beyond what most open-world games attempt.
It’s not just aiming to recreate the experience, but to do so with a level of realism that sets it apart. Unlike games like Dynasty Warriors, it’s focusing on a more authentic feel, and all signs suggest this could be a surprisingly great title among the many highly anticipated releases of 2026.
3. The Witcher 4
The Main Event
When The Witcher 4 finally comes out, it’s going to raise the bar for all other games. We haven’t seen much gameplay yet, but the graphics we’ve seen are stunning – truly a visual masterpiece. While The Witcher 3 looked great, The Witcher 4 is taking things to a whole new level.
The visuals are stunningly crisp and detailed, almost like flowing artwork. It has the potential to redefine graphics in video games, while still maintaining the series’ unique fantasy style – it’s not striving for total realism, but something more imaginative.
Honestly, even if they released this on a future PS6 or a super-powerful PC I haven’t even heard of yet, it’s going to be a huge challenge to actually run. But the fact that it is a real game, that’s enough to get me excited and start imagining what it could be like.
2. Crimson Desert
2026’s First Big Thing
Crimson Desert is scheduled for release in March 2026 and appears poised to be one of the biggest open-world games of the year. The game features a massive world and boasts stunning visuals.
This game consistently impresses – it’s hard to believe what you’re seeing is actually possible! It’s visually stunning, blending science fiction and fantasy in incredible environments. The characters feel like they stepped out of a show like Game of Thrones, and the creature designs are breathtaking. It’s shaping up to be a strong contender for Game of the Year next year.
Players should immediately notice how good the game looks, given that it’s made by the team behind the visually stunning Black Desert Online. This new open-world game aims to build on that impressive visual quality, and it has the potential to be one of the most exciting games in years.
1. Grand Theft Auto VI
The Godfather Comes Home
A year from now, we’ll probably be playing the new Grand Theft Auto game, Grand Theft Auto VI, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most visually stunning games ever made. Based on the trailers, the game will offer an incredibly realistic take on a fictional Miami, Florida, with amazingly detailed environments and characters.
The game boasts incredibly detailed characters, clothing, and lighting, along with realistic cars and explosions. Given its reportedly massive budget, we’re expecting a stunning and immersive game world when it releases next year.
We haven’t seen detailed gameplay yet, but Rockstar Games consistently delivers incredible graphics. Even seven years after its launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains a visually breathtaking game, and we expect Grand Theft Auto VI to be just as impressive.
