Battlefield 6, similar to other first-person shooter games on consoles, will include aim-assist technology. However, the developers say it will be subtle. This approach aims to create a different feel compared to Call of Duty, which is often criticized for its noticeable and sometimes intrusive aim-assist features.
Matthew Nickerson, a senior combat designer on the new Battlefield game, explained that the team has developed an updated aim assist system called Aim Assist 2.0. He described it as an improvement over the system in Battlefield 2042, and said they’re using advanced, real-time rendering technology to make it work even better.
We’ve significantly improved how consistently the game performs. We’re keeping aim assist very subtle. We’ve avoided adding features that make aiming feel automatic – in fact, we removed a feature called ‘snap zoom’ from the previous game because it felt too clunky. Our goal is to make aim assist feel natural and human-like.
According to Nickerson, the aim assist feature in Battlefield 6 is designed to help players without feeling like it overrides their control.
The system won’t work unless the player interacts with it. We want players to feel genuinely rewarded for their actions, like getting kills, and believe that *they* earned those successes. It’s important that the player feels responsible for their achievements, not like the game is doing it for them.
Nickerson admitted that aim assist is a widely discussed issue in first-person shooter games. He stated they’re happy with their approach and are prioritizing what they believe provides the best experience for Battlefield players.
Battlefield 6 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC starting October 10th. The game will also include a battle royale mode, which is expected to be released around October 28th.
EA and the team behind Battlefield recently explained how cross-play will function in the game. Plus, new gameplay videos showcasing the Mirak Valley map have been released.
