Before Battlefield 6 comes out next month, the developers at Battlefield Studios will be making final improvements based on feedback from the recent open beta. Players have been sharing their thoughts – and some funny memes! – about the beta, with a lot of jokes about powerful snipers and how easily their scopes catch the light. The team has seen the memes and is enjoying the humor.
Christian Buhl, the technical director for the new Battlefield game, and Matthew Nickerson, a senior combat designer, recently discussed the upcoming release with IGN. Buhl acknowledged the humorous memes circulating about the game, saying he found them funny but also understood the concerns they highlighted.
Buhl said they noticed some funny things happening in the game and found it amusing. They quickly realized they needed to make adjustments based on player reactions. It was helpful to see how players responded – like when they complained about snipers being too strong or the bright glints making it easy to spot them. Buhl even saw memes about hillsides covered in those glaring reflections, which highlighted the issue.
Nickerson mentioned the design team enjoys seeing the memes created by players, and he commended fans for using humor to point out areas where the game could be improved.
The team finds the community’s feedback really helpful, even when it points out issues. As Nickerson explained, things like the sniper glint and bullet tracer effects were initially too strong, but player feedback allowed them to adjust those elements. Ultimately, this feedback keeps the development process honest and reminds them there’s always room for improvement. They appreciate that players are actively engaged and sharing their opinions, and the team is equally enthusiastic about the ongoing conversation.
During the interview, Nickerson also discussed how the team is handling different types of weapons in the game, and explained their willingness to allow players to choose whether or not to play in matches where any weapon type is allowed. A leaked skin for the upcoming Battlefield 6 caused some backlash from players who felt its design didn’t fit the game’s realistic military style. Battlefield Studios has since assured players that all skins and cosmetic items will maintain a realistic and authentic feel.
Electronic Arts (EA) plans to share story details for the upcoming Battlefield 6 on September 26th. They previously showed off the game’s battle royale mode earlier in September. Battlefield 6 is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 10th.
