Battlefield 6 devs admit they’ll “never win” against cheaters despite new anti-cheat system

Despite implementing new anti-cheat measures, the developers of the upcoming Battlefield 6 acknowledge that cheating will likely remain an issue in the game.

Cheating is a major issue in online shooting games. Games like Warzone have struggled for years to deal with it, and players of Apex Legends continue to report problems with cheaters in ranked matches. Battlefield 2042 even faced a significant cheating problem during its beta test.

I’m so hyped for Battlefield 6 coming out on October 10th, but it’s a little disappointing to hear the developers admit they know they’ll never *completely* get rid of cheaters. It’s good they’re being realistic, I guess, but still frustrating as a player who just wants a fair game!

Battlefield 6 devs can’t win against cheaters

Christian Buhl, technical director at Battlefield Studios, recently told IGN that preventing cheating has been a major focus for the development team. The upcoming game will launch with a new anti-cheat system called Javelin, which requires a ‘secure boot’ process. This means only software the system trusts will be able to run when the computer starts up.

In addition, the team behind Battlefield 6 has a dedicated group focused on identifying and banning cheaters, as well as staying ahead of new exploits. Electronic Arts has also created a company-wide anti-cheat team that collaborates directly with the Battlefield developers.

However, despite that investment, Buhl was realistic about the limits of what can be done.

It’s impossible to completely eliminate cheaters, as they’ll always exist, creating a constant battle to counter them. While we can’t guarantee a cheat-free experience for PC players, we’re taking very strong action against them because maintaining a healthy game environment is our top priority.

Buhl also pointed out that cheating happens far more often on PCs than on gaming consoles. However, since the next Battlefield game will allow players on both platforms to play together, console players might still come across cheaters in some online matches.

Despite advancements in technology and the work of several teams focused on the issue, the developers of the next Battlefield game acknowledge that cheating will likely still occur. However, they’re committed to minimizing its effect when the game is released.
