Okay, so everyone knows the Xbox Series S isn’t as beefy as the Series X or the PS5. That definitely made things tricky for the team working on the new Battlefield. But honestly, the tech director, Christian Buhl, said it wasn’t *that* much harder than optimizing the game for different PC specs – basically, hitting different performance goals depending on the hardware. It’s all about finding the right balance, you know?
In an interview with IGN, a developer discussed the upcoming Battlefield 6 and how it will run on the Xbox Series S. They confirmed the game will consistently achieve 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution on the console, without giving players a choice between prioritizing performance or visual quality. The developer explained this is because the Xbox Series S is less powerful than other consoles.
According to Buhl, the biggest hurdle during development was limited memory. The Xbox Series S has 10GB of system memory, while the Series X has 16GB, and their memory speeds also differ. However, Buhl explained that they were used to this type of constraint, as they also develop games for PC across a range of hardware. He also mentioned that many players in the Battlefield 6 beta used the minimum required PC specifications.
Game developers have often voiced concerns about the Xbox Series S, with some even suggesting Microsoft stop requiring games to be made for it. A notable example was Baldur’s Gate 3, which launched on Xbox Series X|S after the PlayStation 5 version due to technical difficulties with the Series S.
Last week, Battlefield Studios revealed some details about the battle royale mode in the upcoming Battlefield 6, including a closing ring that eliminates players. We expect to learn more about the single-player campaign at the Tokyo Game Show later this month. Battlefield 6 is scheduled to release on October 10th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
