EA’s Battlefield 6 has been a commercial success, selling over 7 million copies. However, the game’s release wasn’t without issues. Longtime developer Marcus Lehto pointed out that several contributors weren’t given proper credit for their work on the game.
The credits for Battlefield 6 acknowledge the developers from Ridgeline Games, the studio responsible for the game’s single-player campaign. However, not all of Ridgeline’s team received credit, which disappointed studio lead, Lehto. He stated that Ridgeline Games played a crucial role in building the foundation of Battlefield 6 and that everyone involved deserved recognition for their contributions.
The developers spent one to two and a half years building the core of the game, before I chose to leave and the studio eventually closed. Despite their hard work, most of the laid-off team were only given a brief acknowledgement in the game credits – a ‘Special Thanks’ at the very end – and some, including myself, weren’t credited at all.
Lehto created a modified version of the Battlefield 6 credits to ensure everyone who worked on the game received proper recognition.
“Game development is a team effort, and every contributor deserves fair acknowledgment,” he said.
According to Lehto, several developers weren’t properly credited in Battlefield 6, including lead character artist Addres Naranjo, lead technical artist Rohan Knuckey, software engineers Jessica Moore and Dan Carr, and Lehto himself.
TopMob has contacted EA for comment on this situation.
It’s happened before that developers haven’t been properly credited for their work, with examples like Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Baldur’s Gate 3.
EA moved developers from Ridgeline Games to join the team working on Ripple Effect. They then announced that Ripple Effect, along with DICE, Motive, and Criterion, would be the main studios developing the next Battlefield game—now known as Battlefield 6—under a new group called Battlefield Studios.
Following Electronic Arts’ (EA) February 2024 layoffs and the closure of Ridgeline Games, Marcus Lehto expressed disappointment with the company. He stated that many people, including members of his team, were negatively impacted by the widespread job cuts in the gaming industry.
Following the release of Battlefield 6, Lehto publicly congratulated the entire global team, acknowledging their dedication and hard work on the massive project and wishing them continued success.
Marcus Lehto is a long-time professional in the video game industry. He’s most famous for helping create the popular game Halo and its main character, Master Chief, while working at Bungie in Chicago. He started as an artist and eventually became art director, spending over 15 years with the company before moving on in 2012.
After that, he launched a company called V1 Interactive and created the game Disintegration. Unfortunately, it didn’t gain much popularity, leading to the game’s cancellation and the studio’s closure. In 2021, he began working at EA on the Battlefield series, continuing there until 2024.
