Battle Beast’s Powers & Backstory Revealed

In the third season, Battle Beast has made a comeback. This formidable and enigmatic character is one of the key figures in the show, and the television production continues to withhold his intriguing past from us.

In the comic series Invincible, not every powerful character is a Viltrumite. Allen the Alien’s rapid strength puts him among the universe’s toughest combatants (he’s definitely one of the strongest Unopans), and should Atom Eve’s safety mechanisms be deactivated, she could disintegrate anyone instantly with her abilities.

Initially, Battle Beast instilled a sense of dread when he came close to killing Mark in the early stages of the series. In the first season, it was actually Mark who attacked Machine Head; seeking assistance due to this predicament, he enlisted villains such as Magmamaniac and Tyrant. Yet, these adversaries proved no challenge for Battle Beast, who left Mark teetering on the edge of death without so much as a nod of approval towards his opponents’ fighting abilities.

His specialty is always seeking out a formidable adversary; he discovers one in Invincible Season 3 Episode 4 (without revealing specifics for now). If you’ve recently watched it, let me share some background details about his character and his remarkable powers. Spoiler alert for comic book enthusiasts!

He constantly seeks out strong opponents; he locates one in Invincible Season 3 Episode 4 (skipping the details for now). In case you’ve recently caught up with it, I’d be happy to share some insights into his character and exceptional powers. Be warned: comic book spoilers are coming!

Battle Beast backstory

Prior to venturing across the cosmos in pursuit of adversaries, Battle Beast once safeguarded his home planet. Yet, his attempts to establish harmony resulted in an unquenchable craving for combat, leading him to depart on a quest for formidable, perilous foes to engage with.

In Issue #67, it’s outlined that Thadeus instructed Omni-Man and Allen to locate weapons and resources for combating the Viltrumite empire. Upon reaching Battle Beast’s planet, however, they couldn’t find him anywhere.

Rather than justifying his own violent behavior, the ruler elaborates on the circumstances that transformed him into such a figure. “Indeed, I am familiar with the one you refer to,” he says. “He is our beloved son, the favorite of our planet… the one who safeguards us all, and it was under his guidance that we found this paradise.

However, through this pursuit, he found himself ensnared by a compulsion for conflict. With invincible strength and eternal life, he departed our realm in search of battles that would match his extraordinary skills. Some among us question whether he truly exists; I hope to endure long enough to witness his return. Such is the fervent desire we all share.

Also, his real name isn’t Battle Beast: it’s Thokk.

What happens to Battle Beast in the Invincible comics?

Following his confrontation with Mark and the Guardians, Battle Beast is absent from subsequent events until Invincible Comic #55, where Omni-Man and Allen manage to escape their Viltrumite imprisonment.

When Nolan was being led away for his execution, Allen suddenly broke free from his cell, releasing his imprisoned companions to divert the guards – maybe even locate someone who might aid them in their attempt to escape.

Later on, it’s disclosed that Battle Beast is also imprisoned, and he hints at helping Allen – though with a caveat. “I seek out formidable opponents solely. My assistance to you shall be temporary, lasting only until our interests no longer align,” he cautions Allen.

In a turn of events, they locate Nolan, and Battle Beast swiftly engages in combat with one of the Viltrumites. “Are you the ones I’ve been searching for? The legendary conquerors, revered with fear across the cosmos, known throughout the multiverse… I must challenge you to a fight, engage me!” he shouts.

Following Allen’s creation of an opening on the prison wall, everyone is pulled into outer space. As Battle Beast floats away, it collides with a Viltrumite soldier repeatedly, eventually leading to the soldier’s demise.

caution: He resurfaces in Issue #73, rescued by a combined fleet vessel following a prolonged ordeal of nearly freezing in the vastness of space, possibly enduring this state for several weeks or more.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast, let me spill some beans: Battle Beast is just getting started! If you’re digging his vibe, buckle up because there’s much more of this titan in store for us in the future of Invincible!

Powers & abilities

In the realm of Invincible, Battle Beast stands among the most formidable warriors, demonstrating unparalleled combat prowess that often sees him hold his ground against, or even overpower, Viltrumites and all other foes he encounters. Here’s a rundown of his extraordinary abilities:

1. Superhuman Strength: Battle Beast possesses immense physical power far beyond that of any ordinary being.

2. Invulnerability: This fearsome warrior is virtually indestructible, able to withstand even the mightiest attacks without so much as a scratch.

3. Regeneration: In the rare event that Battle Beast does suffer an injury, his incredible regenerative abilities allow him to heal at an astonishing rate.

4. Flight: With the aid of his powerful wings, Battle Beast can effortlessly take flight, traversing vast distances in a matter of moments.

5. Enhanced Senses: Battle Beast boasts senses far superior to those of any human, allowing him to perceive threats and opportunities others would miss.

6. Shapeshifting: This incredible warrior has the ability to alter his physical form to suit different situations or challenges he may face in battle.

  • Superhuman strength
    • It’s hard to measure Battle Beast’s strength – let’s just say, he’s really strong. So far, nobody in the Invincible TV show has been a significant challenge for him, and considering how easily he laid out Mark, he’s not a force to trifled with.
  • Superhuman durability
    • Battle Beast has taken punches, kicks, and all sorts of attacks from Mark, the Guardians, and Viltrumites – and while he bleeds, he’s barely affected. He was also sucked into the vacuum of space and appeared to be completely unfazed.
  • Super-speed
    • Battle Beast runs, jumps, and pounces faster than some Viltrumites. Bear in mind that his biology shares similarities to lions and tigers, so he sometimes moves like them when he attacks.
  • Enhanced senses
    • All of Battle Beast’s senses are far stronger than a human, allowing him to sniff out enemies and detect their presence so he’s never at a disadvantage.
  • Combat prowess
    • Beyond his strength, Battle Beast is a gifted fighter, confidently wielding any weapon at his disposal (as well as his claws and fangs) to hurt his enemies. Notably, he’s highly trained in hand-to-hand combat and his swordsmanship is peerless.

Who voices Battle Beast in the TV show?

Michael Dorn, famously recognized for playing Worf in the Star Trek series, is the one who performs Battle Beast.

In a conversation with CBR in 2020, the actor shared insights on his method for voicing Battle Beast: “You see, the voice-overs differ greatly from other projects as there’s little time for preparation,” Dorn stated.

Furthermore, the endeavor often proves fruitless since upon arrival, they frequently have a preconceived notion. This idea tends to shift, so entering the situation with a blank slate is usually the approach.

Exceptional voice actors don’t rehearse extensively. Instead, they approach each role with an open mind and follow instructions. I’m glad they enjoy the process.
