The latest Batman movie features a cast of nine villains who are central to the plot. All but one of these characters are well-known DC Comics villains who’ve appeared in previous films.
It’s common for Batman movies to include multiple villains, but usually they focus on just a few from the DC universe – even the comic books rarely feature a huge roster of enemies at the same time. That’s what makes the upcoming Batman sequel so remarkable and stands out from previous installments.
Batman: Revolution Features A Number Of Burton Movie Villains (& Plenty More New Additions)
Following the story of the 1989 Batman movie and including characters from both Batman and Batman Returns, it’s not surprising that Batman: Revolution features villains from those films. However, Revolution also introduces a new group of original villains alongside the familiar faces.
Throughout the story, familiar villains like Max Shreck reappear, and we get glimpses of Catwoman and Two-Face before they become major characters in Batman Returns and Batman Forever. The story also presents a unique version of the Riddler, who plays a central role in the plot and everything that happens.
The villain lineup also features a variety of supporting characters, including lesser-known Batman enemies like Killer Moth and The Archer. Hugo Strange returns as a key player, continuing his story from the prequel, Batman: Resurrection, leading into the events of Revolution. A significant addition is Camille, the leader of a militia that Batman must confront throughout Revolution.
This list’s ninth villain is particularly interesting. He appears in the later issues of Batman: Revolution and is actually Edward Nigel Maynard – a character well-known to Batman fans as the Riddler. In the Batman ’98 comic, he fully embraces the Riddler persona, and it’s hinted that he was influenced by the first Riddler seen in Revolution.
Batman: Revolution’s Villain Roster Helps The Sequel Truly Feel Like It’s Set In Gotham
Batman stories often focus on just one or two of his villains, and while these are usually successful, they don’t quite capture the full scope of his comic book adventures. What makes Batman’s job so challenging is that Gotham is usually full of multiple supervillains he has to fight at the same time, creating a much more complicated situation.
Batman: Revolution really shows how difficult Batman’s job can be. He’s facing a lot of dangerous enemies all at once, and many of them are working together. This makes the story much more exciting and ultimately proves why Batman is Gotham’s hero when he succeeds.
