Zack Snyder recently posted his favorite picture of Ben Affleck as Batman, and while doing so, shared a previously unknown story about how the Snyder Cut was made.
Zack Snyder’s Photo Shows Batman in His Knightmare Suit
Since joining Instagram last month, director Zack Snyder has been posting behind-the-scenes photos from his films, including Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, and his upcoming movie, The Last Photograph. Today, he shared a picture of Ben Affleck as Batman in his Knightmare costume, noting that he took the photo with his Leica Monochrom camera and that they built a small set specifically for the portraits. He called it one of his favorite Batman photos.

The images Snyder mentions in the caption are the promotional teasers he released for his 2021 director’s cut of Justice League on HBO Max. Although they show Batman wearing his Knightmare suit, the suit doesn’t appear in the actual movie until the very end, when Bruce Wayne (played by Ben Affleck) has a dream about a dark, future world.
Zack Snyder directed three films for Warner Bros.’ DC Universe – Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) – often referred to as his Justice League Trilogy. Although some fans continue to ask DC to let Snyder complete his planned five-movie story, both the studio and the director have since started working on different projects.
It’s been a big change for DC fans like me! They’ve completely rebooted the old DCEU into something new called the DC Universe. A new actor, David Corenswet, is taking on the role of Superman – it’s definitely different without Henry Cavill! And visually, everything’s much brighter and more colorful. As for Zack Snyder, he’s moved over to Netflix where he’s been busy with projects like the zombie film Army of the Dead and the epic Rebel Moon. He’s now working on a smaller, more personal war drama called The Last Photograph, which sounds like a nice change of pace from his huge blockbusters.
