48-year-old Barbie Hsu, a widely recognized Taiwanese actress and vocalist, who gained fame from her role in the popular 2001 show “Meteor Garden,” tragically passed away.
On Monday, the BBC shared news about Hsu’s passing, based on reports from local sources. Her sister, Dee Hsu, informed Taiwan’s TVBS News that Hsu took sick during a trip to Japan.
“During the Lunar New Year, our family went on a vacation to Japan. Sadly, my sister Barbie passed away after contracting pneumonia, which was caused by the flu,” Dee Hsu reported to the BBC. Previously, Hsu had faced health issues and had been hospitalized due to epilepsy.

As a cinephile, I’ve graced the small screen with roles in the dramas “Corner With Love” (2007) and “Summer Desire” (2010). On the big screen, you might recognize me from the 2008 action flick “Connected,” the 2010 romantic comedy “Hot Summer Days,” and the epic martial arts film “Reign of Assassins” alongside the legendary Michelle Yeoh in 2010 as well.
After tying the knot with Chinese entrepreneur Wang Xiaofei in 2011, Hsu took a break from acting. They were blessed with a daughter and a son, but they parted ways in 2021. In the year 2022, she made public her second marriage to South Korean singer Koo Jun-yup.
