After a long wait and many delays, the first downloadable content for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord has finally arrived. TaleWorlds surprised everyone by announcing the release date during their initial gameplay presentation, and it’s fantastic to report that War Sails was well worth the anticipation.
Bannerlord War Sails first impressions
Even with just short videos on YouTube and posts on X, fans were incredibly excited about the upcoming War Sails update for Bannerlord. The game was already a huge, open-ended experience with fantastic combat and complex warfare, but the developers took it even further by adding ship battles. This addition significantly increases the game’s replayability, and it was already a game you could play for a long time.
When War Sails launched on Steam, the number of players online immediately jumped to twice its previous level. Early reviews suggest players are really enjoying the game.
Finally a studio that releases a SIGNIFICANT DLC (take notes Paradox).
Wow, this DLC is incredible – honestly, it feels like a full game on its own! If you’ve ever dreamed of being a Viking pirate, this is the place to start. It totally delivers on that fantasy!

While not flawless, the War Sails tutorial has its downsides. It takes too long to learn the basics, which should be quick and enjoyable to get players into the main Bannerlord experience. The quests feel drawn out, the AI isn’t always helpful, and the story feels a bit uninspired – this time, you’re rescuing your sister instead of your brother. However, despite its length, this mode is a pretty good way to earn money and get better equipment early in the game.
Currently, War Sails has a 73% positive rating on Steam. While many players haven’t spent much time with it yet, these initial impressions are important, particularly because fans have been eagerly anticipating this DLC for a long time.
