Bannerlord devs just revealed a unit that could change the dynamic in the game, built with War Sails challenges in mind

As a huge Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord fan, I’m getting so hyped for the War Sails DLC! We’ve already seen glimpses of the awesome Nord archers and what looks like a seriously powerful new warship. Now, TaleWorlds has just revealed another cool addition: a brand new unit called the Mariner is coming to the game with the DLC! It’s going to be amazing.

A first look at Bannerlord’s War Sails Mariner units

Mariners will be skilled fighters capable on both the sea and on land. Standard soldiers will perform poorly in ship-to-ship combat, while Mariners won’t face this disadvantage. However, Mariners will be less protected on land, making them vulnerable, particularly to cavalry attacks, due to their lighter armor.

What’s particularly noteworthy is how this impacts different nations in the game. The Nord faction is unique because all of their units are skilled sailors, meaning they don’t face any penalties when fighting at sea. Other factions have only a few skilled sailors, and the Khuzaits have none at all, which will likely put them at a significant disadvantage in naval battles. This could dramatically change the game’s balance, as powerful archers and infantry might not be as effective when fighting on water.

It’s still unclear when players will be able to experience the new features and units in *War Sails*. The developers have announced the game is coming this fall, but haven’t given a firm release date, so it could be some time before it’s available.
