Bandcamp has banned music created by artificial intelligence, responding to a growing trend of fake artists gaining popularity on other music platforms.
It’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference between music created by humans and music created by artificial intelligence. What started as a simple test has rapidly evolved into a booming industry, with AI-generated songs reaching the top of the charts and attracting huge investments as people enjoy these artificially created sounds.
A new AI musician named Sienna Rose has quickly gained popularity, with three of her songs appearing on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart in the USA. Her music is now being streamed by nearly 3 million listeners each month.
Despite the growing trend of AI-generated content, Bandcamp is taking a stand against it. The platform will now block all music created by artificial intelligence, reaffirming its dedication to supporting human artists and their work.
Bandcamp bans AI in a commitment to human creativity
The platform made its declaration in a January 14, 2026 blog post called ‘Keeping Bandcamp Human.”
The organization stated they see music as a crucial part of what connects us as people and enriches our culture, and it’s far more important than just something to be bought and listened to.
Bandcamp is blocking all music and audio created using artificial intelligence. This decision is based on a desire to honor the history and importance of human-created music. Their policy states that any music or audio generated entirely or mostly by AI is not allowed on the platform.
Using AI to copy the voices or musical styles of other artists is also not allowed. Bandcamp accounts found doing this will be immediately closed.

“With this policy, we’re putting human creativity first,” the blog outlined.
This situation is particularly important right now, as other music services like Spotify are facing criticism regarding artificial intelligence. For example, in July 2025, AI-created songs appeared on the platform that sounded like they were performed by artists who had passed away.
