The new release is already a popular streaming success, and could indicate great things ahead for the Twisted Childhood Universe.
According to FlixPatrol, Bambi: The Reckoning is now the third most popular movie on Peacock in the US. It’s currently behind only Wicked: For Good and Home, but ahead of films like The Wild Robot and the Oscar-winning Hamnet.
What Is Bambi: The Reckoning — And Why Is It So Worth Watching?
Directed by Dan Allen and written by Rhys Warrington, this is the fourth film in the Twisted Childhood Universe created by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Chambers. It’s a dark and disturbing reimagining of the classic story Bambi, where the deer transforms into a terrifying monster after being exposed to dangerous chemical waste.
The movie features Roxanne McKee as Xana, who brings her son, Benji (played by Tom Mulheron), to see her sick mother-in-law and the rest of her husband’s family. Meanwhile, a monstrous deer, pursued by hunters working for the shadowy Wilbexr Pharmaceuticals, begins attacking anyone who gets in its way.
When Bambi: The Reckoning came out in 2025, it did reasonably well, earning $534,030 at the box office on a budget of about $334,000 (£250,000). Although it wasn’t the biggest financial hit in the Twisted Childhood Universe, it received the best reviews, currently holding a 63% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
What Does the Future Hold for the Twisted Childhood Universe?
The Twisted Childhood Universe is preparing for two new releases in 2026, starting with Pinocchio: Unstrung. This film will introduce the last major character needed for the universe’s first group of stories. Following that, the highly anticipated crossover event, Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, will finally be released.
Premiering on April 11th, Pinocchio: Unstrung features a story where a man introduces his nephew, James (played by Cameron Bell), to Pinocchio. A small mistake then sends Pinocchio on a violent mission to destroy anything he considers evil. The film also stars horror icon Robert Englund as the voice of The Cricket, and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney returns as Michael Darling from Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.
The Twisted Childhood Universe is expanding! This new film will combine characters from previous movies like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, and Bambi: The Reckoning. It promises to be the most violent installment yet, and will also introduce major characters from upcoming films, including twisted versions of Sleeping Beauty, the Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, and even Tintin.
